Cubase quick controls for Macros?

Hey,
I was trying to setup Komplete Kontrol inside Cubase so that the Quick Controls are mapped to the Macros.

With MassiveX it's already mapped and works properly, but with KK the default controls don't make any sense and I don't see any way to setup the QC to map to the Macro because I don't see the Macros as objects (there is over 1000 objects but nothing Macro)

So I setup each QC to learn each Macro but it learns the actual value, therefore when I change a patch in KK nothing is mapped to the Macros any longer.

thanks

You can still do that via the RCE, if you go to the Focus Quick Controls via the 'QC' icon and open them up:

You can then click on that pull down box i've circled (above), and select MIDI Channel 0 MIDI CC's, use the same CC's that you've already got learnt. (It's down the bottom of that list)

    MIDI Parameters > MID Channel 0 :

You can do this via the RCE too, but via the QC interface is a little bit cleaner and less likely to cause problems with KK. They save as part of your track preset too.

From previous experience, if you change the order within the RCE it can cause problems with Komplete Kontrol as it needs that strangely named 'NIKBxxx' parameter at position 1 to know which instance of KK is currently under control.

I'm not sure if it's still this way, but something to be aware of.

You're best to map to KK via MIDI CC messages otherwise you're right it's using the plugin automation (Which I prefere as if you record automation it's fixed to that parameter rather than relative to the page you're on).

    It's quite simple to setup:

First, just setup your 8 quick controls to a range of MIDI CC's. (CC21-28 for example), in the smart control setup these are located within 'MIDI Channel' and then 'All CC' section:

Once you have those 8 smart controls, go in to the MIDI mode in KK (Yellow box) and then pick the 'MIDI Learn' option (Green box), then learn to each rotary control (Purple box) by moving the QC's you have setup.

Press the MIDI button (yellow) when done and it will close that learn screen.

You'll be mapped from quick controls in Cubase, through to MIDI CC mappings in KK then.

If you use the new MIDI remote in cubase you can map to the next/previous pages and presets too if you fancied it, as you're not limited to just the 8 mapping as you are with quick controls. Or you could just set up your MIDI controller and control KK directly using MIDI CC's

One other thing to mention is that you can also save your QC's along with the plugin using "track presets" within Cubase for easy recall. This is important to know if you use custom QC's.

Oh wow thank you for the quick reply.

Ok I got the track control (inspector) method working no problems and saved a track preset for that.

I would of liked to be able to use the Remote Control Editor like I can do with MassiveX, because the track quick controls don't work when you have the plugin focused…

I will have to try using your method because right now that is the only way I have gotten to work so far…

    thank you.

Awesome. Ya I never thought to setup unused midi CC for MIDI learn to connect to.

BTW I just wanted RCE to use the 'apply' feature so that it saves as the plugin default. But it's all saved now as defaults as well.

    TY
