When attempting to open Komplete Kontrol 3.4.0 I get "waiting for a product scan" error

I have repaired, uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, used the NI Uninstall RegTool_64bit.. nothing works. (I'm a former sw engineer of 20 years)
General tips I find online is "once open, go to prefs.." or "restart the data base" (??) type answers. I can't do anything, as it just says "waiting for a product scan" and nothing happens… it never opens…
pulling my hair out…

This seems to be a bug with 3.4.0 on some Windows systems, afaik the fix is in 3.4.1 coming soon, but you could also downgrade to the previous version if you need it fixed more quickly

NOTE - do not downgrade though if you have just updated to the latest firmware (1.9.4) as it may not work if you do
