Some library downloads succeed, some fail / DAW won't start

Hello,

I need help with two problems. I’m currently downloading all the sound libraries I’ve purchased from NI (using Native Access) to a new external SSD hard drive.

[1.] Many downloads/installations succeed, but many others keep failing time after time. I have noted that when a download will be successful, the folder with its name appears in my assigned content location, the folder "NI Libraries" on the SSD, right at the beginning of the download process. If this doesn't happen, the library will not be installed and at the end of the process the note "Installation Failed" comes up. In these cases (and not in the successful ones) during the download process the files "[product name].iso.aria2" and "[product name].iso" temporarily show up in the Downloads folder of my computer only to disappear at the end of the failed download. (See the following screenshots.)

Since downloading/installing works perfectly well with many libraries, including large ones like "Choir - Omnia", I assume I'm doing everything right. So why do the rest of them fail, and what can I do about it?

FYI, I have granted full disk access to Native Access and the Daemon, and I have iCloud Private Relay turned off.

[2.] My other problem is this: Since I downloaded a part of my purchased NI-libraries (about 1/4 of them), my Cubase Pro 12 won't start anymore, but gets stuck in the initializing process and has to be force quit. It works again only when I choose the option "Deactivate all third party plug-ins". Obviously it has to do with the newly installed NI products. Is that something you can help me with, or is it a case for the support at Steinberg? (Do I need to de- and reinstall my NI products, and can I be sure it will work after that? The processes are so time consuming...)

I'm using an Apple M1 Ultra processor with mac OS Ventura 13.1

I would be super grateful if anyone could help me back on track. Explanations and/or instructions "for dummies" are highly appreciated! 😉

Yes, actually I get an idea , and I can not believe that I did not do my usual copy paste of the standard advice , it's just I have to do this so often that I suspect that a lot of people might think poorly of me.

I think that your ExFAT disk format on download drive is a clear 'violation' of the Mac users must do rules when using N.I. software. Rules compiled by me appear to be the ones listed below here , but it says in the disk format advice that , quote : On macOS 10.13 High Sierra and later, the Apple File System (APFS) format is recommended.

While I can not guarantee that that is the problem then there is a high probability that the wrong disk format could be causing the problem.

I am not a Mac user , and I can only assist by supplying advice based on knowledge compiled and also based on N.I. knowledge-base articles which alas is not always accurate either , sometimes apps may function at an OS even if it say that it do not , so that makes knowledge-base information more like guidelines which alas also sometimes makes me , but in this case I think that there is no doubt that you need to use the correct disk format and even if should not be the cause of present problem (still think that it might be) then the wrong disk format may give other problems down the line.

Be sure that you are using latest version of Native Access for your OS

Else also please go through the usual Mac user check list :

ALL NI apps including NTKDaemon must have full disk access. : How to Enable Full Disk Access on mac OS and disks must be of correct format : Notes on Network Drives and Disk Formats

Also then please check that iCloud Private Relay has been turned off : Native Access Error Message: "Download failed" (macOS)

Also then do not use Clean My Mac.

And quote Kymeia : if using Sequoia then N.I. apps must be added to the Local Network

Please check that you have enough space on both download destination and system drive

Check with Disk Utility to see if you have any snapshots that are taking up space.

You'll have to enable show snap shots first though if you haven't already.

You can also verify this by going to the terminal and typing du -H

If NA is complaining about disk space, more than likely you will see a difference in free space in the terminal compared to Disk Utility.

(As for Cubase not wanting to start since I began downloading the NI libraries, actually now it does start, but it now needs literally 13-15 minutes to get through the initializing process. I have done this about six times, also shutting down the computer in between, and it seems to work every time, but it still takes that long for it to get started.)

It looks like reformatting the destination disk changing to APFS did the trick! I had no clue about the necessity of doing this, being so far relatively "green" in these areas…

I have started downloading the libraries which always failed before, and so far it's running smoothly.

Also my Cubase again starts normally.
