I bought the Komplete 13 pack a few years ago and now i am trying to use an akai apc 40 in the Maschine program. is this possible and how do i map it? it now only works like a keyboard, every button is like a key on the keyboard, but id like to use it to control the software if this is possible.

To have the APC pads triggering the different sounds slots instead of chromatically playing a single sound the Group Midi Routings must be set to Drumkit

    Hello,

you can map some knobs but then don´t record them, it makes no sense without a maschine in my opinion. But maybe this helps:

working with controllers is one of the great joys of controlling the maschine software…

however to control aspects of native instruments software, with the akai Apc hardware, it really needs to be done in a DAW context… as standalone controls are janky as heck to setup if you dont have the NI paired hardware, so the best route to go… is using the NI's plugins inside a host DAW,.

to further complicate issues, the DAW you choose will have a big bearing on how much configuration you will achieve with your akai midi controller….

but before going down this path of DAW selection, you first need to find out if your controller has a midi mode, whereby you can configure the Akai apc40 Hardware to send &/or recive midi feedback

    now for clarity….

heres a typical configuration screen, in which you can configure your hardware, this is of course Native instruments own controller editor software

this allows you to change layouts of banks, cc/note/pc buttons&values, to allow you to configure the hardware for use in a DAW or outside of a Daw

a good midi controller will have a supporting mechanism to adequately change, button presses & assignments of midi cc/note/pc etc etc

if a hardware controller, doesnt have this ability, its junk in my eyes & i will avoid such controllers

so it pays to understand what you have in terms of your controllers ability… before embarking on anything to do with controller configuration.

heres an example of a "untypical way" of controlling volumes

using the buttons as modifiers + a single knob for control… this is controlling maschine from within a DAW/plugin context, (using midi mode)

a typical use case, might be you have 64 tracks, & you want easy access to the individual volume controls without using a incremental banking method

how you setup controllers really depends on the tools within a DAW… i personally use Reaper & realearn by helgoboss, both software are a godsend, allowing so much freedom for configuration to occur with the DAW & VSTplugins… VST configuration really depends on what parameters are exposed by the developers of each plugin…

Maschine VST3 does have parameters exposed to assign to volumes/gain/pan/patterns/scenes/locks & even some assignments within the sampler/audio area… where you dont have midi parameter assignments, you will need to use a different method… ie mouseposition&mouseclick to midi assignments… configuring stuff takes time and effort

heres the midi-realearn interface(made by helgoboss) that i use within the ReaperDAW, where you can see a typical configuration of a VST3 with their exposed parameters

To OP: can you define a little better what you want to do with the APC?

As you can see, from what you wrote many of us understood your needs a little differently.

I read it as if your problem was about APC’s pads playing a sound chromatically instead of all the sound slots of a kit; someone else read it as you want to control other aspects of Maschine software with knobs and faders,… (which, btw, can be achieved with Macros and midi learning them. At least for some aspects)
