In Native Access you can click on Preferences / File Mangement and change the Content Location to your external drive. I’d create a folder on your drive for Native Instruments to keep it tidy.

My tip from experience is to find an external drive of the capacity you think you need, then double it! I regretted buying my external drive only to fill in with instruments and samples and then had to buy another one as I ran out of space!

You defo want a SSD if your can afford it and you shouldn’t see a performance degradation as long as you are connecting over a modern USB protocol like USB 3 or above. If you are buying a new drive, this should be labelled in the description And you should check your computer has this too (if it is relatively modern it will). If you are using an older drive you had lying around or an older computer this may not be USB 3 and could be comparatively slow and so you might find this doesn’t work as well for you.
