smallest form factor to get RANE 12 mk 2 to talk to Traktor pro 3 (or upgrade to 4) for DVS

Hey team,

So I know its dumb and my music is derp,

But I have a M1 MacBook Pro and have been using Traktor forever! (had a OG s4- won't work with modern apple) - so now I have an S3

Can I just plug the RANE 12 Mk2 into the line in on the S3 and use the s3 as the sound card and the mixer?

Would the Komplete audio 6 work to bring VST in from the RANE? (then for now I can midi my F1 to be the crossfader?)

What would be the smallest stand alone form factor (and also no brainer to get it to work) to get this to work with just the RANE, mixer x, and the laptop?

thanks man! Yeh I want beat sync, but it’s not working when I touch the track with the Rane the sync button won’t stay lit up ( like it does if you scratch with the s3)

I assume that this is different now because of the scratch deck. Sorry, that's the only way I know it. So here's a tip from me: display the phase meter in the deck headers, there you can see if the phase is shifted and which side you need to correct it on. Alternatively, you can just double-click on sync and then the phase jumps back to the grid. As soon as the grid is correct again, the sync button lights up blue again. Otherwise, only the text is blue. This is probably intended as visual support.

Ok thanks Owner - yeh I understand how it works and I have the phase meters open at the top of the tracks - its just that it seems to behave differently when used as a scratch track (Ive never used anything like this before and Im not actually a DJ so maybe its me having the issue the the gear and software are working fine….

the thing I want to understand is - is there no such thing as beat sync (where the sync button is lit up blue) and when you let go of a track it automatically clicks back into sync… this is not available when using a scratch deck (because you are a dj and not letting the software do it for you? or you are a scratch dj and that's not how you do it??)

Let me know ! The only thing I can compare it to is the behaviour of the s3 scratching the internal playback.

Ah, ok, I understand what you mean. Unfortunately, I can't help you much, as I don't know much about controllers. I only need my S4 for a few gigs a year, where it doesn't make sense or there's not enough space to lug all my equipment around. I'm more of a turntable person, and I'm happy when I can do as much of it myself as possible, and can also do things that are deliberately inaccurate or unsynchronized. I usually correct the phase using the turntable or jogs themselves, or by double-clicking the tempo sync function. I let the grid jump to the phase briefly and then deactivate sync again. I do this whenever I've been inaccurate or done complicated things and need to get back to the grid more quickly before I can hear or realize where exactly I need to correct something and in which direction. Perhaps this is a workaround for you, or a matter of getting used to it. If you run out of the phase after scratching, you can deactivate sync again and then activate it again straight away. So just a double-click. In my case, it has now become embedded in my muscle memory.
