smallest form factor to get RANE 12 mk 2 to talk to Traktor pro 3 (or upgrade to 4) for DVS

Hey team,

So I know its dumb and my music is derp,

But I have a M1 MacBook Pro and have been using Traktor forever! (had a OG s4- won't work with modern apple) - so now I have an S3

Can I just plug the RANE 12 Mk2 into the line in on the S3 and use the s3 as the sound card and the mixer?

Would the Komplete audio 6 work to bring VST in from the RANE? (then for now I can midi my F1 to be the crossfader?)

What would be the smallest stand alone form factor (and also no brainer to get it to work) to get this to work with just the RANE, mixer x, and the laptop?

Thanks for your help and have a great day

As Traktor Pro 3 and 4 take any audio interface and feature "Scratch for all" this should work with your S3 as Rane says that Twelve Mk2 can output a Traktor DVS signal. Don't have a Twelve Mk2 therefore I cannot test it.

What to you mean with Komplete Audio 6 for VST? Traktor doesn't support VST plugins. But of course you can use Komplete Audio 6 as audio interface in Traktor Pro. Should also work with DVS as long as you supply line level signals.

Yeh sorry the question is can the audio 6 do the DVS signal - then I would hack my F1 to be the crossfader (as a smaller form factor set up than using the RANE next to the s3)

As long Rane Twelve Mk2 works at line level and nit phono level it should work with Komplete Audio 6. Traktor works with any audio interface since Traktor Pro 3.

Yes, the RANE Twelves MKII output a line signal.

ok so I bought the RANE and have it sitting here next to my S3 … but so far cant get it to work.. any advice greatly appreciated!

At the moment I cant get the s3 to show a line input - even when the little light is set to line - in the software line in is greyed out on the first audio prefs page and mic in is the only input showing up on the input page??

As you have a MacBook: Has Traktor access to microphone in macOS System settings → Privacy & Security?

Yeh I saw that and it was already turned on..

so an update,, I tried playing music from my phone as the line in, and it showed up as signal coming in as mic in in the software…

so maybe Im not getting a signal out of the Rane? Will it matter if Traktor sees it as a mic in signal and not line in?

I don't won a S3 myself, therefore I am not sure about how it works. But as switching between line and mic inputs is done on S3 itself I expect that Traktor cannot distinguish between line and/or mic. But it shouldn't matter, try to select the mic input as input for one of the decks and if DVS/Scratch control works then.

    Ok people!!

So now I am really confused!

I got it to work (sort of) but it it not really clear if this is actually going to work for any kind of performance or stable application??

I have done a lot of research and asked a lot of questions on here BEFORE I bought the RANE 12 mk 2 and it is supposed to run native to Traktor……..

but now I see there is some issue with grounding and there are posts - buried - not in the first hits - that say that actually the RANE 12 s cannot be used for scratching in Traktor because of a known issue in the way Traktor handles motorised platters???

    What have I done people?

First of all make sure your preferences are correct. In my example is us my 12 for Deck C.

Don't activate the EXT button on your S3.

You can disable the deck header warnings if you are rid of the error message from the grounding issue (ignore that message anyway, your 12 needs no "extra" grounding).

Making some progress! Now the sync won’t lock when using scratch!!

I’m certainly getting the error ( ground hum) but it doesn’t seem to be causing any issues?

    Nice to hear!

    • Yes you can ignore this (ground hum) error.
    • There are two type of sync in Traktor. Beat sync and tempo sync.

E.g. Tempo sync lines up decks with the master tempo. Beat sync goes a step further and starts playing the track lined up to the beat. Tempo sync needs some manual correction, but beat sync can go awry if your beat grids aren't properly set or if you miss your cue (eg the 2nd beat will play on top of the 1st).
