Hi,

I need to add some banks + tag some NKS user sounds.Currently I'm running KK V3.3.4 with a s88 MK3. There still doesn't look like there's any way to create banks with v3.3.4 for VST3 plugins on Windows cpu's ,so my question is for those that upgraded to the newer mk3 keyboards that are creating NKS sounds. My VST is the Montage M ESP plugin, and it's VST3 Only.

Is it possible somehow to install and use both KK v2.9.6 + v3.3.4 on the same CPU, so we can create banks on v2.9.6, and then use the supported mk3 in v3.3.4 ?

Has anyone found a way to do this ?

There is a way to install both - undocumented and unsupported of course. I think Kymeia might have had a method a while back.

Installing them is one thing - using them was quite another as you had to modify files on the fly to switch between versions etc. Cannot remember the exact sequence of steps.

As far as creating banks in one version and using them in another- have no idea how that would work.

Yeah I worked out a way before KK3 came out as I needed to have them both on my system - my method was for Mac but NI added a similar process for Windows users although I have not personally tested that.

On both systems you need to remember that KK3 was intended normally to replace KK2 so it removes previous installs, including the VST2. However if you back them up first you can replace the missing files. One thing that NI did right is give each version their own database so there is no danger of corrupting databases.

Install 2.9.6, then back up a copy of the VST2 (on Win it would be a dll) and rename the exec app to something different (eg Komplete Kontrol 2 should be sufficient) - also I backed up a copy of that too just in case it still got removed. Then install KK3.

After that on Mac it is just a case or returning the VST2 version you backed up to the VST2 folder (as there is no VST2 of KK3 there is no risk of overwriting that but always keep a spare copy backed up in case future installs remove it)

This is the NI advice re Windows

    https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/14394517675677-How-to-Keep-Komplete-Kontrol-2-9-and-Komplete-Kontrol-3-on-Your-System

One thing it adds is to back the scan app but I'm not sure if that is out of date now - shortly after release (I think this is because I showed it was feasible to keep them both on the same system) NI decided to give each version its own scanapp on Mac which was a helpful decision, so that may also be true on Windows - you will have to check

Awesome! Thanks Kymeia for explaining this in details. Yes this is great NI allowed for the separate databases.
    Thank you !
