Reducing the sample size of a kontakt library - Not working
When performing live, I use a lot of virtual instruments/VST. Kontakt is one of my favorites.
However, to save my Mac’s resources (mainly RAM) I need to reduce the total amount of samples loaded by my kontakt’s libraries (and you know how huge they can be) especially If I just need a few notes or patch of that library. I mean, if I only use a few notes from a library, why load all samples?
So, I found a video about how to handle this. Mainly, I just enter the library, purge all samples and then play only the notes I need. Then I “save as” a new instrument (patch only) and next time when I load that new instrument only the samples I need are loaded.
That worked like a charm (and still does) for “Session Horns Pro”, for example. For a library that required 0,79 GB if fully loaded, I now only load 8 MB!!!
However, I tried to apply this method on another KONTAKT library: “SHREDDAG 3 JUPITER”, a guitar library. Sadly, I found that the above method didn’t work, and I can’t find why.
I followed all the steps, purged the samples, played the notes I needed. I found that the samples size reduced dramatically (from 0,59 GB to 9 MB) as expected. I play it in my DAW (GigPerformer) and if I open the KONTAKT plugin, the sample size remains at 9 MB, as expected. BUT, if close Kontakt and then load that instrument, I find that all 0,59 GB samples are loaded again.
Why is this happening?
Is there any workaround?
