Why does Komplete Kontrol Plugin Scanning take so long ?

How are you guys dealing with this issue? I'm using an Overclocked I9, that absolutely shreds ,yet it's always the same old tired slow loading each time I launch Komplete Kontrol. Why on earth does the plugin scanning take over 3 minutes to just launch the program.. KK VERSION ( 3.3.4 )

Anyone got a fix ? Other than pressing the esc button ? which is not a fix ,when I always have new plugins to scan. Plugin Guru Unify uses a smart feature called, scan only new plugins.. WE REALLY NEED A BETTER SOLUTION

How many plugins do you have? And how many are you allowing KK to interact with?

My primary directive is - if the plugin cannot be controlled via my S61 MKII - it does get invited to the party.

From a NKS workflow perspective - it is pointless to allow any plugins that are not NKS to be scanned at all.

Over here I am using KK v2.9.6 with ONLY VST3 NKS compatible plugins and my KK scans and opens in 5 secs or less. Have 410 plugins in total - but again - I have heavily deselected ANY plugin that cannot be used from within KK - like say 100+ UAD VST2 plugins that make zero sense to scan everytime.

And it really helps to ensure you have ALL Native Instruments product excluded from Windows Defender - or it will be scanning along side of KK - making it even more painful.

I see, yes I'm using many, many more plugins than you are, but I like having access to what I paid for. I have everything excluded within my anti-virus.Now to find which plugins I have to stop using because of their code. ;(

Thanks for the reply, I'll give that a go to see if it helps.

Going down the long list of my pluigins one by one, this is like fl studio from 2005 , having to uncheck each plugin is maddening, who has time for all this ! How about an option to remove by vendor this is crazy . ;(

I guess I should just uninstall most of my plugins to use Komplete Kontrol. This is really becoming a pointless mission to us this app anymore.

Yes. It is pain. And takes time to uncheck every bloody thing. But it was worth it here.

I will do whatever it takes to arrive at a 5 sec scan time.

I have 370 plugins, VST3 only and all of them are always active, nothing is de-selected.

Komplete Kontrol takes 9 seconds to open… which is fine by me, 9 seconds is really nothing (at least comparing with a bus trip from New Delhi to the Himalayas, in the 90's in the middle of winter!). Patience is a virtue. 😋

but… i do not have any relics from (for example) 2005 or so… I make music with computer since 2001 (and long before, with instruments) and i never ever kept anything software related older than 5 years old, maximum. Also any plugin that is proven problematic, it goes straight to the rubbish bin, no matter how much it costed me.

If you really want to seriously deal with music, then you need perfection on every level. 🙏

    Agreed.

When I built my new DAW 11 months ago - I made hard decisions on installing only plugins that I actually use in my DAW, only install VST3 and ONLY allowing things like KK to scan those plugins that are 100% NKS compatible and that can be manipulated on screen by my S61MK2.

VS my last build when I just installed everything in my stash (old, new, known vendors, obscure vendors) with no rhyme, reason or purpose and watched my scans take 5 mins.

Won’t be doing that ever again.

I just went through my plugin list , deselected so many plugins, yet it's still rescanning the same plugins I deselected… 30 minutes later and it's Still rescanning.

My daws start up in seconds with thousands of plugins, and apps that host plugins ( Plugin Guru Unify , Freestyle ) the same thing.

Any idea's why it would still scan the same plugins I deselected ?

    That does not sound normal.

And your DAW starts up in seconds because it already knows about all your plugins and is not rescanning them each time.

When I deselect a plugin in KK v2.9.6 - it is never scanned again.

Agreed, i had to cancel the scan and restart it. I never had these issues in 2.9.6

Just FYI, deselecting the plugins does NOT remove them from the scan, it just removes them from the list so they can't load, KK still scans them.

You can simply press ESC during the scan but I myself have close to 800 plugins and it takes about 20 seconds to load KK. Once all plugins are scanned initially they should be stored and are only rescanned if they change. However, I am using KK V2 so who knows what kind of mess things are in V3 and if it works the same.

Could be several reasons when it does a long scan, some plugins poll the server for authentication when they are pinged, often demo plugins will cause delays when the trial runs out so be sure to delete any plugins that are in demo mode.

In your plugin preferences you should have only 2 paths, one to your VST2 plugins (and should ONLY be 64bit plugins there not anything from Program Files (x86), and your VST3 path. Remove all other paths as I have seen some people add the root Program Files folder and having paths that contain other .dll files that are not VST files can cause these kinds of issues.

You can try just rename your VST2 folder path temporarily and see if things improve. You shoudl also be able to see on the startup splash window which plugins are being scanned. I know that when my Roland Cloud subscription runs out this causes scan delays so I move the plugins out the folders when not in use.

It is exactly the same in KK V3. Once it scans the plugins, it never re scan them, unless something is change (such as adding a new plugin or removing an old one). But even then, the scan takes much less time than the first scan, because there is a database already, and the already scanned plugins are not re-scanned.

So, it is most likely that our friend here, either has unnecessary folder paths (as you correctly suggested) or other types of files that don't really belong there. And it can't be a .vst3, it will probably be some .dll.
Maybe some old iZotope version? They had some weird .dll's (not the actual plugins) some years ago.

    Can you make 2 screenshots?

One with the KK folder locations and one at the time that KK stuck while scanning, i want to see which plugin it is (like in the example below)

Have to disagree here. When I first built my new DAW and before I had any chance to deselect anything - ALL my 390+ plugins were scanned and it took like 4 mins.

Once I finally got into KK the first time and spent 5 mins killing off all the stuff I never want KK to ever use - my next scan dropped to 5 secs.

It is blantantly easy to see KK grinding thru things when 400 things are checked vs 50.

If your observation was true - none of us would have any issues to discuss. Scans would seemingly be instant if KK only need to scan everything just once.

I have two folders. Vst3 and prog files / vst2 selected. It’s finally done scanning

Ok it took about 20 seconds this time as well. My CPU is clocked @ 5.2 ghz it shreds through everything, I guess after I deselected the plugins, it got hung up or something I have no idea.

Thanks guys for giving me a hand with this. It's taken some time for my brain to understand how KK works again, I suggest if you have alot of plugins and have a similar issue you do it at night before passing out.

    thnx

Can tell you, doesn't stop them scanning by deselecting but happy to be proven wrong if you want to go to the trouble, but pretty confident as this was discussed in detail some years ago on the old forum and I cannot imagine anything changed in this area, have also done hundreds of tests over the years around this situation.

You may be confusing the issue tho. When things are all scanned it SHOULD be fast and selected/non selected plugin will simply be checked to see if they exist, not interrogated for features and versions unless they changed since the last poll.

Not anything to do with people not having an issue or not, simply doesn't remove plugins fully from being detected by KK. Only way to be sure is to physically remove them from the folder which was the suggested practice when troubleshooting.
