instrument template is a .nkr file I cant open it with kontakt

I purchased a library vandia 2 not knowing the instrument file to play through kontakt is an .nkr file that will not open. I chose "open this file with" but what ever I choose including kontakt it does not work. I read that this .nkr file was used in earlier versions of kontakt like 5. I am presently running kontakt 6.6.1 you would think there wouldn't be an issue. Any ideas?

    NKR is a resource file. You want to open the NKI, which is an instrument file.
