Why is komplete kontrol mk1 series not supported anymore and does not work with Ableton live 12?!

Hi Native,

I recently found out that Ableton Live 12 is not supporting the komplete kontrol S49 MK1 anymore. Of course Ableton has a role in this too. My question is how is it possible that a product I bought 9 years ago is now useless in my setup. I am forced to buy a new Komplete kontroller now which I think is not very sustainable. Can you give me an offer for a hardware upgrade? I have been supporting your products through the years but find it hard to believe that a piece of hardware is now useless after 9 years. if I buy a MK3 now how long will it last into the future, maybe it is good to mention that when you sell your hardware to customers. Please give me some advice. Thank you. Best,

Jobstr

It's not useless , you just have to stick with what it is compatible with (KK 2.9.6) ; Komplete Kontrol 2.9.6 - Last VST2 supported version , and what follows of those limitations. Also then the S-Series MK1 still works as a midi controller also.

Can you give me an offer for a hardware upgrade?

Discounts are given on sales. Keep an eye out for a sale with an offer that suit your particular taste. Otherwise then for inquiries then you will have to ask N.I. Purchase Support or N.I. Account Support.

This might have come up in discussions but I doubt that there are any final answer to that one , though I think that I remember N,I, saying something like that they supported the S-Series MK1 for X number of years , I think around 10 years. But try reading the discussion here Kontrol S-Series MK1 EOL discussion or again then you will have to ask N.I. Purchase Support or N.I. Account Support.

    Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your answer, Komplete kontrol is my flagship of my studio. Since I updated Ableton to version 12 I can not use the full functions of the komplete kontrol software and hardware (something with midi remote scripts not supported anymore by Ableton) So for me it has become useless to be honest. I guess I have to take my loss and invest in new NI hardware because it is not future proof anymore. Not my way of going forward to be honest. Best, Jobbe

    Hello Native,

I have contacted Ableton technical support team and this was their reply:

    Hello,

    Thank you for reaching out.

The reason your Komplete Kontrol S49 MK1 is not working with Live 12 is that its control surface script has not been updated. Live 12 requires control surface scripts to use Python 3, but the script for your keyboard is still based on Python 2. We recommend contacting Native Instruments' technical support team to inquire about any plans to update the script for this controller.

Let us know if you have additional questions.

    Best Regards,

    XXXXXX

Can you advise in this matter and is it possible to create a surface script which uses Python 3?

    Hope to hear from you.

    Best,

    Jobstr

I doubt they will update the scripts for a product that's out of maintenance, your best cause of action would be to stay on Live 12.0 and not use 12.1

    Hi Tom,

    Thanks for your feedback.

I am using 12.1, but good to know!

    Cheers
