Audio Device for Live Input

Hey guys, I'm trying to use the live input on Kontrol S4mk3 to plug in a friend's Pioneer controller (his only has RCA out, and using my board to connect him into the sound system). Problem I'm having is the S4 won't play the input when using WASAPI (shared or exclusive). I checked the input decks - nothing showing in any channel. Also verified the Ext - Line Input on the controller, and tested both line and phono.

I just installed the ASIO software and was able to make an input instrument work - haven't yet tried the Pioneer controller again but assume it will now work as well. The ASIO install made the original WASAPI modes disappear which leaves me no backup if it has any issues and would prefer to go back to WASAPI by uninstalling the ASIO.

Is there a way to get the S4 input working on WASAPI mode that I'm overlooking? I never had a problem with this on my old board - Vestax VCI-400 - software settings didn't change.

I think the real question here is, why on Earth you want to go back to WASAPI since you have a working ASIO, which is a far, far, far superior technology…

Good question! I read mixed reviews here on ASIO including some comments that it was more demanding on the system. WASAPI wasn't giving me any problems except for the live input. I also have fear than if ASIO fails for whatever reason (just paranoia), the WASAPI options are no longer available.
