Kontakt Player 7 and 8 Distorting Instruments in Logic 11

I'm not finding anything on the forum or on web searches for this. It's new to me today.

Was using Kontakt Player 7 with Logic 11. All good until today. Some MIDI instruments (3rd party library from Spitfire, the Bernard Herrmann Composer Toolkit) began to distort. In the case of both instruments, it would seem to slow down or even reverse the instrument on alternate notes.

I upgraded Kontakt 7 and then moved to 8. The problem persisted.

For a brief moment, in 8, I was able to access the FX and found that every instrument was locked on a particular effect, even if that instrument didn't have that effect. (I got strings cluster stabs available on synths.) Finally the "lock" came off and I was able to reset FX. It worked correctly for 15 minutes or so, then went back to what it had been doing.

And now the FX button there at the bottom does nothing. The others (EQ3, Lo-Fi, etc.) can be on or off but do not reveal any settings.

Is this exclusive to a particular Spitfire library, or is this a Kontakt Player issue?

I tried other instruments (all from Native Instruments) and found that while there was lag and a lot of frustration getting the display to switch from one to the other, their functions appeared to work.
