Why has Kontakt 6.7.1 suddenly quit working on my Windows 11 machine

I was using it every day, then this afternoon Kontakt 6.7.1 began crashing immediately on invocation. I've already tried reloading, rebooting, running malware scans. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I have had problems with Windows updates in the past. Typically they reset audio parameters, making Audacity and Kontakt incompatible. I know how to fix that -- it doesn't cause a crash. This was different, and I really have no idea what caused it. But I did fix the problem by going through the first and second "chapters" of the online fix procedure. The second chapter fixed the problem.
