How to make a patch totally mono
How do I make a patch MONO so there is absolutely no note overlap at all. I tried reducing voices to 1, there is still overlap. I tried turning on retrigger, there is still overlap. I tried enabling "monophonic" switch next to retriever, but there is still overlap. HOW in the world do you make the patch 100% mono so there is NEVER any note overlap?? I'm using Kontakt 7

Possibly because it has an incredibly and ridiculously and (some people think) necessarily complicated job to do.
When I set Voices to 1, the first note (including release tail) is cut off promptly.

Not sure what you are tring to achieve here, could you develop?

That really has nothing to do with Kontakt and everything to do with what instrument you're trying to make MONO.

I already said I want the patch to be mono so the notes don’t overlap at all when you play them.

I simply don’t want the notes to overlap when I am playing them. I lf I am playing a C note, and I then hit a D note, I want the C note to be completely canceled. I don’t want its tail to remain. exactly like a mono synth behaves. why isn’t it a prominent option? Why do I have to go searching for it? Where is it? Why is this app so incredibly and ridiculously and unnecessarily complicated??

Ok, I see where the confusion is from, mono vs stereo and mono as monophonic synth.
So you're making your own instrument or editing an existing one?

Kontakt is more of a sampler, mainly for multi samples, it's not really designed to behave like a monophonic synth, it might not be the best tool for what you're trying to achieve.

This is a simple feature of every sampler I’ve ever used. You should be able to set it so notes never overlap. Steinberg Halion does it no problem.
Also to the person who said that if you set the voice to one, it promptly cuts off the previous note, not completely. If you load up an 808 sample and you played two different 808 notes in succession , you will hear them slightly overlap at the beginning of the next hit. So the feature actually doesn’t even work the way that it is supposed to work because one voice should never mean one voice plus the tail of the previous voice.
I’m so frustrated with Kontakt. I can’t believe I bought Kontakt 8 and you guys haven’t even updated the archaic sample editing screens. They still can’t be sized. This is just unreal in 2024. I’m over it. I’m switching to Halion. Enough
