Studio One 6.6.2 and Kontakt 8.0.0 Issue

Yesterday I upgraded to Native Instruments Kontakt 8. When I open songs that originally used Kontakt 7, Studio One opens them with Kontakt 8, but no instruments are loaded in Kontakt 8. To make Studio One automatically load Kontakt 8, I have to remove Kontakt 7 from the VST and AU Components folders.

I know how to resolve this manually—by finding the instrument I used in Kontakt 7 and loading it into Kontakt 8. But here’s the thing:

In Cubase, when I open a project that includes Kontakt 7, it automatically loads Kontakt 8 along with the instrument that was used in Kontakt 7.

That is because Cubase has built in "auto-migration" for Kontakt instances and Studio One does not.

This is a long standing issue with not just Studio one but many other DAWs as well.

And it has nothing to do with Kontakt BTW. This is on the DAW vendor to address (or not address).

I've just tried this too: In Logic Pro 11, when I open a project that includes Kontakt 7, it automatically loads Kontakt 8 along with the instrument that was used in Kontakt 7.

So Cubase Pro 13 and Logic Pro 11 have built in "auto-migration" for Kontakt instances.

Correct. And most of the other DAWs do not.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but does this mean a 300+ instrument orchestral template that was created in Studio One using K7 will now load with no instruments if I install K8 (along with any historic projects, which is even worse, as they often dip into random libraries )? And if there is no reference to the library apart from Violin 1, 2, Pulse etc I will not have any idea what library that track came from? Some are labelled but not all for sure. If this is the case the upgrade is going to create a

Unfortunately - correct.

Now - you can certainly install K8 alongside K7 - but if it were me - I would not remove K7 until I had migrated (manually) every instrument over to K8.
