Midi CC numbers: How to find out? #templates
Hello everyone,
I'm trying out the new Template function on the MK3 S61 and wonder:
how can I find out say the CC numbers in different vst instruments for example for a button to turn on the Reverb or anything? Some manuals provide the CC numbers but many don't.
Any hints and infos on that? Thank you😇

Most plugins don't have fixed MIDI CC's but just use MIDI learn to assign them, some allow you to save these mappings (eg Arturia plugins) but not all

Thank you for the fast answer!
So, some toggles don't have Midi learn, can I find out by trial and error, what CC they correspond to? Or are toggles / knobs without Midi learn funtion not controlable that way?

Depends on the plugin - give me an example
Very few plugins have automation targets for every single param. Remember MIDI only goes up to 128 so they prioritise

Let's say I want to press the "dice" button in some of the NI-instruments → like Analog Dreams 2.

for Maschine/Reaktor you can use the "Edit" view to see/change the CC numbers itself.
1 - click Edit
2 - choose any destination (like "Arp Mode Up/UpDown/Down" as pictured)
3 - click the ☑️-symbol and "Connect"
4 - here you can find/change the CCs0 -
OK so in Kontakt you can assign MIDI in 2 ways (if it is not already setup) - either by right clicking on a knob/button and selecting MIDI learn, then moving your knob on the keyboard, or by dragging one of the CC's in the left column over to the param you want to assign it to. If it is available for automation the cursor will change to a green + sign, unfortunately for the dice it doesn't which means it's not available so I guess it's 'no dice' :)

Wuhuuu thank all of you!
Yes I also just found the Midi Automation Tab in Kontakt!
AND I CAN assign the Dice - and also other buttons like on/off for FX!
This is really cool!
PS: I don't know why but your dragging way does not show the green + sign BUT the following works:
- Set your button or know to send teh CC number you want
- click the same CC number slot in Kontakt (see image above from @Kymeia)
- click "Assigned to: Learn" under the CC List
- move the button / knob on your keyboard
- click the button / knob in Kontakt to be controlled
It works with any button / knob I tried. So even the ones that don't show "Midi learn" or the green + sign while hovering / dragging things with the mouse.

If you want to save this connection or if you have set up a whole bunch of knobs etc.
→ save it as an instrument "File/Save as"

That's interesting, I couldn't assign that one even using learn but evidently should have persisted
