Piano VSTs with weird high overtone feedback

Unfortunately it's some time since I used this VST. I never fully worked out the details of how it works, but I do remember it tends to superimpose traces on one another which is what you have done. I don't know how to clear the screen - I'm not sure it's even possible, so I just re-initialise it each time, or delete it and reinstal it.
Find the raw sample of the troublesome note. Get it in the Wave Editor and click the Go button.
Does the sound have the resonance that you hate? (If not, the problem is not with the sample.)
If the Freqanalyst is attached to Kontakt's output you should get something like this:
Don't play any more notes!
You can see the harmonics - capture the pcture in some way or detach it from Kontakt so it doesn't get corrupted. Do the same with some nearby notes and see if there is an obvious difference.

thank you for your help! I think I am starting to understand. I opened up the wave editor and only played the E flat and the harsh ringing frequency was there! then I tried some notes around it and they had a worse ring in the editor than in the actual instrument!

You'll need to experiment. Perhaps with a notch filter - do you think there might be something around 9kHz? And have a look at what the authors have done with frequency filters - maybe the Eb specifically just needs a bit more of something they've already done.

That's the string sample, if the show the same string used for the same few notes that irritate you then try to ditch that string sample and replace it with the next string above or below it. It might be very easy compared to trying to filter it. Once you swap it you can confirm you did it right by playing it. The pitch of the note will be the same as the note you got the sample from. Then all you need to do is tune the sample and that's it. You kind of have to learn something about the note though. Sometimes there a two samples per note. One sample is recorded with the sustain pedal down and the other is with the sustain pedal up. So you may have to learn how to deal with that. Also each string is generally sample many times at different key velocities. This means there can be a lot of samples for each note. So it you use a different string you have to move all of the samples along with it. Most likely you have to highlight each sample, copy that and paste it where the bad string was removed. Do you know how to get into the Kontakt forum. They'll know exactly what to do and it'll be a breeze.

wow!!! I had no idea kontakt allowed for this kind of customization and flexibility! It seems as though I’ve only scratched the surface! I am a pianist, but have only really known the organic world. I’m new to VSTs and all they entail. I just recently learned about what goes into a sample and round robins and all that. Thankfully at this point I can comprehend all you’re saying because a couple months ago I don’t think that would be the case. I didn’t know you had that much control over the samples inside all the kontakt instruments! I can navigate myself over to the kontakt thread. Is there a place in a user guid, or YouTube video that shows how to dive in under the hood on these instruments a little and do all that? I would hate to ask questions that could be easily answered somewhere!

There's probably a lot on you tube and the kontakt forum can get you going. The owners manual for Kontakt is probably excellent. I'd watch you tube stuff to get the general idea then read the manual and ask questions in the forum. Type Kontact on your question and at the bottom and it should get you in there. Have fun, yeah samplers are cool, they're actually very simple, the hard part is getting the samples. I was going to make one with my Coronet someday.
