Kontrol S MK3 won't boot up

I've got a used Kontrol S49 MK3. First I couldn't register the serial number because of the dreaded "already registered to another user" message. NI tech support took care of that in a hurry for me! (Thanks NI tech guys, you rock and roll!) Then it still wouldn't register, I would put the serial number in Native Access and it would say it was registered but the screen would still ask for the serial number. One time it came up and asked to update the firmware, so I did, and now it boots up to the screen that says Default MIDI Template and I can't get it to do anything else. I've tried different usb cables, powered hub or directly in, nothing seems to make a difference. I've been through the knowledge base and google and can't find anything about this. Has anyone experienced this before or have any suggestions? Thanks!

Just to be sure, are you running either Kontakt or Komplete Kontrol? They control the S49 and add the graphics/browsing features. Without one of those running you'll only see the MIDI templates.

Yes, I've tried it with Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol both. Doesn't seem to make a difference what program I have open. Thanks for the suggestion!

Have you installed the Hardware Connection Service? Please check this article: After Registering My Kontrol S-Series MK3, I’m Still Asked to Add My Serial Number
