Last night I watched a very interesting YT video where a business coach held a presentation for the top management of a large automotive company and explained how lack of communication works: „You don’t communicate at all. But no communication is communication as well. You are telling your customers loud and clear: We don’t care about you!“

Let's be honest - there is no communication because there is a risk that something will go wrong and there will be rescheduling again like in the case of Massive X.

Been there. It's appreciated when you're honest, just don't make any promises, but tell your customers what's going on, f.e. "we're working on it, but it's harder than we expected, and we need to figure things out before we know when we're done. We will give you regular updates every x weeks." or "We have currently decided other things have higher priority and we thus have moved resources to another project. We expect that this effort will be wrapped up in X weeks, and then we will add additional resources to this project again." etc. etc. You catch my drift :)

For this “honesty” a business manager should truly consider ”the customer” as the most important stakeholder…

They’ve most likely hit major roadblocks during the development and don’t want to admit how bad the situation is. Many software projects are a complete train wreck close to the deadline.
