Pre-Tape Deck Audio Playback
I'm running Guitar Rig 7 on Windows 11. I often need to load a pre-existing audio clip via the pre-tape deck at the top, run it through my rack presets, and then use the post-tape deck at the bottom to record and save the new mixed version (with my rack pre-sets applied).
I've been trying to find the audio settings in both my Windows sound panel and Guitar Rig itself, that will allow me to hear the audio of what's playing in the pre-tape deck live while it's recording. I see the levels jumping, but it's silent. This is tricky, because sometimes I need to start/stop it at a certain point.
Is there a way to enable what is running in my pre-tape deck at the top to play through my desktop speakers?

Hello,
on the pre tape deck you set the play switch to "at output" then it should do what you want, if I understand you correctly.

Thanks for the attempt Uwe, but that's didn't do the trick. When I click "at output," it pushed the wave file down to the post-tape deck and bypassed on the effects rack (IE: it just re-recorded the original audio file without any effects applied).
In simplest terms, I want the pre-tape deck to also act like Windows Media Player, allowing me to hear the audio file when I play it (while I'm also recording it through the effects rack, down to the post-tape deck, where I'll save that .wav).
I should also note, I don't care which version I hear in real-time…the original or the post (with the effects applied). I just would like to hear it so I can start/stop the recording when needed. I don't always need to record the entire track, just a clip. So hearing where to stop it is needed.

Ok I thought you just want to overdub a guitar to a track, then this would be the correct setting for only distorting the guitar. I can hear the pre tape deck with either setting, just one way distorted and the other way not distorted. What are your audio settings, what audio interface do you use?

Don't have an interface any more. Dumped that for a direct USB connect Shure MV7 mic. Will Guitar Rig not filter the output through my on-board sound?

The problem is on windows you can only use one interface for one application (only if you use the asio4all driver you can), so if you use the sure build in interface you have to use it´s 3,5 mm output. Or you try asio4all and activate what you need on it´s advanced control panel.

I've used asio4all in the past. Would that allow me to use both Shure as my input and hear the pre-tape for output via my speakers?

Yes - as I said you would only have to activate all the needed in and outputs on the advanced panell (click on a spanner sign), then set it up correctly in gr audio settings.

Thanks! So I took your advice and reinstalled ASIO4ALL. It was easily selectable in Guitar Rig, but unfortunately, I'm still having trouble.
Now when I select it, the Shure Mic is no longer read as an input (as it would normally be in the Exclusive mode that I was using previously). And I'm still not getting audio playback from the pre-tape deck.
Am I not setting this up correctly? Is there a tutorial or guide I can use?
