What is the expected behaviour of the Traktor S2 Mk3 with the power supply unit?

I purchased the power supply unit for the S2 Mk2 from NI with the expectation that it would increase the brightness of the controller, but it doesn't do this.

When I plug it in, the controller momentarily lights up and then after a couple of seconds it goes dark. It only lights up again after I plug in the USB cable - as if it is only drawing power from the laptop.

What am I missing here? Is there some setting I need to change? Is it broken? Or is this the expected behaviour?

Thanks!

So this doesn't prevent the controller from drawing power from my laptop? Oh man, I really wish this had been clarified.

There isn't anything in the controller manual to this effect, nor on the power supply page. It just says its compatible with the S2 MK3.

And there's so much online about the brightness being a feature of the S2, but it looks like this was functionality that existed in the MK2 but has now potentially disappeared.

    :(

Apologies, there is a typo. I meant S2 MK3, not S2 MK2. I cannot edit my post here.

    Hi CarQ,

I am not %100 sure but i think i read some others here telling the same.

Hope that at least the power supply prevents potentiometers from failing. I used to have the same controller but after less than a year the fx wheels started to fail (potentiometer failed and is locked at lowest fx adjust value)
Right now im doing the warranty stuff to get a repaired S2 mk3.

Yikes, I only just started using it! I actually don't think it's drawing power from the power supply at all.

    Hey !

To try if the power supply works you can :

    1. Plug out the power supply, keep the USB cable plugged in
    2. Start traktor
    3. Plug the power supply in
    4. See if their is any lights change in brightness

I have done this, there is no discernible change in brightness. It's rather dim.

When I then unplug the USB cable, the dim lights stay on for like 10 seconds and then the unit shuts off.

When I just plug in the power supply with no USB already connected, I get the flashing lights for a few seconds and then it fully shuts off.

I don't know if the problem is the power supply, or the controller itself.

I know very little about this but I had thought I leaned at one point that DC power is only required when running from an iPad.
