Mikro Mk3 Needs 2.18.2 To Bring OG Functionalities Back!

The only things I don’t like about the mk3 mikro are: the change of the manual sampling mode, mixing/adding effects to the master channel on the mikro, and being able to save from the hardware.

I’ve been a dedicated user of Native Instruments’ Maschine series, starting with the original and moving to the Mikro platform for its smaller footprint. I’ve used the Mikro since its release, upgraded to the Mk.2 in 2017, and just got the Mk.3 in 2024. Despite the attractive new hardware, I’m disappointed with the sampling workflow changes.

Previously, live manual slicing was a feature that significantly enhanced my workflow and was a major reason I preferred the Maschine. However, the Mk.3 now has a slower, less intuitive sampling process. This change seems ironic and counterintuitive, especially for a model marketed as “fast” and “on-the-go,” as Boris mentioned. It disrupts the efficient workflow I’ve relied on for over a decade.

I was told " one of the devs stated they couldn't find a way to implement the workflow on the mk3 mikro. They didn't like the user experience so the function was dropped. It was quite literally years ago (i.e. good luck trying to get it changed now)." -

But,  As a programmer, I find it surprising this hasn’t been addressed, particularly since older Mikro models supported it. The more we voice our concerns, the faster we can push for this to be included in the next update.

The original Mikro and other models support this essential feature, suggesting the issue is software-related. I contacted support to request that they revert the settings to re-enable live manual slicing, and I encourage others to do the same. This feature is crucial for maintaining the high productivity and enjoyment I’ve experienced with Maschine products. Also, we used to be able to navigate between sound, group, AND MASTER, with f1, f2, and f3. Now we only have sound and group… we should be able to do EVERYTHING from hardware. I’m sure this can also be resolved in a software update… something that'll show appreciation to long-time users (and new guys) of the mikro platform functionality. I thoroughly believe this can still be THE BEST DRUM 'MASCHINE'.

I have an idea on how some of these ideas can be implemented

Navigate to the MASTER TAB:

hold PLUG-IN + SHIFT + GROUP or PLUG-IN + SHIFT + GROUP + < (Left Arrow)

SAVE PROJECT:

hold SHIFT + PLAY or SHIFT + PLAY + [] (square Maschine project button)

Manual Slicing Mode:

Do whatever was done on the mikro mk.2 - like when you click the sampling button then click the right arrow to "Play Range" tab we should either be able to, as long as you are in manual mode, get the blinking pad to trigger cuts live. Or just make a third tab called "Live Slice" (if you want to keep the functions separate). Again, I know it's possible because, after research, I know there was a time when the "Play Range" tab didn't exist— but was added in a software update.

Let’s work together to get Native Instruments to restore these capabilities and enhance the user experience on the Mikro Mk.3. Some of us CHOSE the platform out of the desire to have a smaller footprint, but we didn’t want a smaller pool of functionality. I’m sure this was done to encourage sales of other offerings, but there are other reasons to buy the flagship models- maybe the screen? The amount of encoders? The ability to attach SD cards and use it as a standalone… don’t worry NI, we will still buy a good product, but bring back the days of being able to make beats while waiting in the airport. SMALL FOOTPRINT FTW. I love maschine and only want it to be Best!!

PS- I'd be so down to work with you guys if you wanted to hire me. I have a vision for making sure this company stays competitive and is industry leading.

also, mk.3 is missing the back and forward tracking buttons that help you move the play head through the song. Quick fix shortcut can be:

    hold SHIFT + TEMPO + < / > (left or right arrow button) or SHIFT + LOCK < / >
