Bug Report: Slow Collection Saving Issue Due to Excessive File Access

edited October 22 in Traktor Software & Hardware

Coming back to test the 3.11.1 reminded me of a long standing issue i started to have somewhere in-between 2022-2023.

When attempting to exit Traktor, the software accesses a large number of audio files on my external hard drives during the saving collection process. This occurs even when the "Don't write tags on files" option is enabled or even when there are no changes on my collection at all. As a result, it takes Traktor over 40 to 50 minutes to save its collection. However, if I remove my external hard drives before exiting Traktor, the software saves the collection and exits within approximately 40 seconds.

Expected Behavior

Traktor should not access a large number of audio files without a reason, leading to a faster saving collection process and exit time even with external hard drives connected.

Actual Behavior

Traktor accesses a large number of audio files on external hard drives during the saving collection process, causing a significant delay (40-50 minutes) in exiting the software.

Additional Information

I have attached screenshots showing the file access logs which indicate the large number of audio files being accessed during the saving collection process.

System Information

  • Traktor Version: 3.11.1
  • Operating System: Windows 11

Troubleshooting Steps Taken

  • Safely removed external hard drives before exiting, which significantly reduced the saving collection time.

Thank You so much for your work on this problem, it unfortunately still exists in version 4, but knowing I can turn off my Collection HDs and get a timely, normal save is extremely useful information because that means I can use v4 semi-normally. I think at this point, Native Instruments, it's high-time to fix this, please we should be able to save our Collections without issues, especially since we just paid $100 for v4.

Another problem in v4 (not in 3.5) is dragging a folder with music into the Traktor Collection. Normal Behavior is for Traktor to import music from that folder, that is not in the Collection yet. BEHAVIOR in v4, it just sits there frozen forever, not sure what it's doing, but what takes a few seconds in 3.5, does not work in v4, and this is just a few hundred songs, half of them in the collection alrady.

Traktor 4 has problems accessing groups of files. Please fix this so we can all enjoy the Great Work that went into v4. Thank You.

PS: When I load my collection in v4, it loads fine but creates a collection_backup_invalid.NML copy of my collection.nml. Not sure why it assumes my collection is an invalid backup, but as per above, if I leave my collection HDs on, the save takes literally forever and the only way is to save with collection HDs off. ?!?

It is already being tested and should be a solution soon.
