Nearly 300GB of space and getting not enough disc space error

I have well over 250GB of disk space available on my computer. I am trying to download Electric Vintage but I keep getting the pop up:

'Insufficient disk space to download or install'

Surely 200GB of free space is more than enough given this plugin only takes up 8.5GB after the download is completed.

Have also tried downloading to a External Hard drive but keep getting an error pop up stating the installation path is invalid.

Please advise on what I should do.

    Hello gus123,

The reason can be about the Native Access 2 itself, as the Native Access 2 is calculating and requesting more space than the actual library itself for the future updates.

    To solve this,

    • you need to have the size of the full library available as free space to be able to start the update installation, despite most library updates only being somewhere around 50-500MB
    • if it is not possible to free up enough space or you already have enough space as it seems like that in your case, the only alternative is to trigger the reinstallation of the library via the direct download link that we will need to send you, for that please reach out our customer care team creating a support ticket and our team can send you the related download link https://bit.ly/NI_support_NA.
NA will then download the full installer of the latest version and install it without it requiring a disk space check (since it simply overwrites the existing library folder)

Also, if you would like to carry your installation to the external Hard Drive, here is the Knowledge Base Article that can help you with this case:

    I hope this helps☺️

I would check if you are caught in the “purgeable” disk space doom loop. Macs will show a large amount of space free, but a good amount may be classified as “purgeable.” Us NI users can get caught in the doom loop if we forget to turn Time Machine backups off before installing large libraries. Long story long…if a backup occurs while simultaneously installing a large NI library, a good amount of your disk storage will become purgeable. I believe you can check the purgeable space from the storage section of the “about this mac” menu. The fix is to manually clear the space via procedure that can be found online (it’s a pita).

    Hi Mert,

I cannot find a contact email address for the customer care centre, the link you sent me to is just the support page and no direct contact is available on there. Managed to find a contact email address for Native Instruments, but I must say this is much harder than it should be. The email is found was info@native-instruments.com.

Thanks for the articles about downloading onto a external hard drive the article basically just said on mac - DON'T. :/

    Cheers!

    Hi MorrisEd,

Thanks for your response and information!

Tried turning time machine off and did so successfully and then retried downloading electric vintage with no success. Checked my purgeable disc space using the method you advised and the disc space was the exact same as before. 300GB nearly free.

    Cheers!
