S88 Mk3 vs Reaper (DAW)
Hi.
I would like to purchase an S88 Mk3 controller, but I noticed that Reaper is not listed among the supported DAWs. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any clear descriptions or videos that reveal what functionality losses this lack of support entails and what functions still work despite this.
Primarily, I am curious about which functions I won't be able to utilize if I use any of these plugins:

https://github.com/jcsteh/reaKontrol
For example, if I add the Komplete Kontrol VST plugin to a track within Reaper, will the instruments appear on the S88 display, and will I be able to switch them from the controller? Additionally, will the LEDs above the keys light up according to the selected instrument? Or do these functions not work at all under Reaper?
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Furthermore, if anyone owns any member of the S-Series Mk3 and would take the time to test the functions with the Reaper DAW program, which is available for a 60-day free trial, and possibly make a video about what works and what doesn't, I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't remember the details concerning KK MK3 and Reaper (only because I don't use Reaper), so I will tag a couple of folks who might be able to answer for you.

Since you brought up the DrivenByMoss 4 Reaper , did you then check out these ?

This is the one to use - you actually get more functions with this than you do with the officially supported DAWS, and even more in Bitwig!
For instrument control you load the Komplete Kontrol plugin which acts as interface between the keyboard and plugins. That works in any DAW

Thank you for your response.
Yes, I have seen these videos, but all three mainly showcase Bitwig, which is natively supported by the Kontrol MK3, and only the first video has a small section about Reaper, which also only deals with button handling, solved by the DrivenByMoss 4 plugin in Reaper's case.
However, none of the videos show that if you add the Komplete Kontrol VST to a track in Reaper, the instruments within it appear on the Kontrol MK3 screen, and you can select between the instruments, and the LEDs above the keys light up according to the selected instrument's key mapping.Thank you for your response.
And is it also certain that if I add the Komplete Kontrol VST to a track in Reaper, the selected instrument appears on the Kontrol MK3 screen, I can choose between instruments on the controller, and the LEDs light up according to the instrument?0 -
Please find a final statement from Rich (Native Instruments) below after requesting official NI developer documentation of the S88 communication protocols to develop full DAW integration:
Thanks for your email. I heard back from the devs - this has already been done by Jürgen Moßgraber. He’s a well known community member who does a lot of unofficial 3rd party work. I just released DrivenByMoss v23 which supports now the Mk3 devices for both Bitwig as well as Reaper! And best of all, it does also work on Linux! DrivenByMoss for Bitwig: https://www.mossgrabers.de/Software/Bitwig/Bitwig.html DrivenByMoss for Reaper: https://www.mossgrabers.de/Software/Reaper/Reaper.html Introduction video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTdJi3WnPzY I checked with the developers and product owner and was told that we do not publish the MIDI DAW Protocol, so there is nothing further I can do to assist you with this. Sorry about that but there's nothing more I can offer from a support perspective. Best regards,
Rich @ NIAs you can see, we tried to get the required documentation for full DAW integration as good as we can, but there was no discussion possible. With this answer, it is not possible to develop and actively maintain full DAW integration, except if the brand is Pro Tools or Ableton.
