Buying a new Mac to run Logic and NI Komplete
Hi all,
I have a 2017 Mac which is now struggling on CPU when I run Logic with some Komplete plugins. Despite freezing tracks and using all the other Logic tricks to minimise CPU, the machine is now very slow and 'hangs' a lot.
If you were starting from scratch what mac system might you recommend?
I ONLY use the mac for music production. I have Logic Pro X on board and Komplete Ultimate plus the Komplete Kontrol keyboard, so fairly simple setup.
I'm open to an iMac or a Mac Mini type system.
I do not want to revert to PC and Windows for various reasons, having invested a lot of time in Logic and Macs in general.

The choice between an iMac and a Mac Mini will probably depend on whether you have or are willing to buy additional periphery, like a monitor and a keyboard/mouse.

My wife has an M1 iMac as her home office computer, it’s a lovely machine. However, flexibility is important.
For music studio I would go with Mac mini and any PC monitor or, if you want Retina display - with 27” Apple Studio Display or 5K 27” monitor (if you can find one). This way you can replace monitor and keep the mini (or vice versa), if needed.
Buy the mini with the largest amount of Ram you can afford (as this cannot be upgraded later) and 512GB-1TB SSD. You can add external storage easily later.

I am willing to get a monitor. Will I get more speed and memory out of a Mini?

That's a good point. I guess, especially with DAW setups, customizability is something to consider.
