Kontakt7 Multiple outputs in Studio One. 6.6.2 Pro

Hi, If I load an instance of Kontakt 7 and create a Multi of 3 instruments, a KT st1 channel is created in my mixer and all 3 instruments are routed to KT st1. Ok, that's fine. But in Studio One within the instance of Kontakt, I can press the output buttons, to select multiple outs, like KT Unassigned [1], [2] etc. After doing that, and went back to an instruments output of the Multi, I still only can select KT st 1, by the way this is the default output and can't de-selected. So How can I, after creating extra outputs, select those outputs within an instrument.

Any help is appriciated!

Regards,

Mark Hofland

    Hi Mark

Not aware of a Studio One 6.6.2 (yet) - or do you mean 6.6.0?

And on one the best vids there is for doing this - is here with Gregor:

Wow, I just 'enabled' the four aux outputs, and yes, seeing the video from Gregor again. So now I created a new Multi within K7, I'm able to send those by the standard auxes within K7 to the mixing console in S1 (pressing the aux button in K7 and then for each instrument I can set the aux level (which also showed up in the mixing console of S1). And Gregor told in hid video, that K7 won't show the outputs in a correct way to S1, and hopefully this will change in the future. But, already did what you're telling me just right now. Created the outputs, s1 s2, etc. And Yes ,  Studio One still has NO idea what you have done in Kontakt - never has and never will. Then you said: you need to dump Kontakt (and it's instrument track) completely from your S1 project How do I dump the whole "thing'?

BTW Thanks for your time helping me out with this problem👍️

Hi, sorry, I mean 6.6.0. I've seen the video from Gregor, but still no luck. I create just a Multi in Kontakt 7 with four instruments. Went to the output view, created 7 extra stereo output (st1 already exists), no problem. Then in Kontakt 7 I set each instrument to their own output, so s1, s2, s3, and s4. No problem. Then, in Studio One, if I'm in the Kontakt 7 plugin, above the plugin is an extra line for Studio One to set multiple ouputs for a particular VST (if tyhe VST supports multiple outs. If I click on the outputs tab to select the outputs I just created in the outputs view of Kontakt, I won't see them. I just see the defaults (KT st1, then 4 auxes, which I just overwritten. In the picture you can see what I mean. The created outputs in Kontakt 7 aren't vissible in the list.

    Now I get it.

In Kontakt - once you get everything set the way your want it (s1, s2, s3, and s4 etc) - you need to SAVE that configuration within Kontakt (there are a number of options under the dropdowns at the top of the mixer in your screencap). Power Tip: Once you get these outputs exactly how you want them - set this new layout as your default so it loads each time.

Then the critical move. To this point - Studio One still has NO idea what you have done in Kontakt - never has and never will. To make S1 "aware" of your cool new output config - AFTER saving that output config IN Kontakt - you need to dump Kontakt (and it's instrument track) completely from your S1 project and then drag in a new instance of Kontakt (hopefully that loads your new default output config).

Now - once the new Kontakt instance is in the project - if you click the Kontakt outputs button in the S1 plugin window - S1 will now "see" your new Kontakt outputs.

Kontakt internals have always behaved strangely and while it looks like the DAW "should" pick up your new outputs as you build them out in Kontakt - that will never happen.

What I mean here is that you will have an instrument track (with Kontakt on it) created in Studio One (in your song) when you are creating this custom output scheme.

Once you have created the outputs you want AND saved that custom config (Out to a file) - you need to right click on the instrument track (in the Studio One arrangement window) that has Kontakt on it - and choose Remove Track and Instrument.

This will drop the track AND remove Kontakt completely from the project. Then simply re-add it. S1 should see you inputs - if you set the config you saved as default.

If you did not set your custom output config as Default - you will need to go into the Outputs area of Kontakt (like in your screen cap) and manually load the config you saved to a file.

Then S1 should see the new outputs.

Jee, what a mess with Kontakt. I have Superior Drummer 3, no problems at all, just hit the outputs, select the outputs and you're done. They just show up directly in the mixing console within S1. Thanks again for helping me out! But, I will try again. Just 8 or 4 stereo pairs from Kontakt 7 INTO S1. There is a VST problem, between Kontakt and Studio one. Mine opinion. 😊

Comparing Superior Drummer and Kontakt for ease of use is like comparing a Lamborghini and a Pinto for elegance and speed.

FWIW - Here in Studio One - I long abandoned using Kontakt in multi output mode - it is much easier to simply add each Kontakt instrument as an instance using Komplete Kontrol and be done with it. Not only do I get light guide and all the other goodies that KK allows - I get instant channel separation with no thought involved whatsoever :)

Do not even use Kontakt in standalone mode either anymore - there is little point to it now.

Hi VP. I'm still struggling what's the best option. Now I just created one Multi within Kontakt 7 (four instruments) and just using the four auxes within Kontakt to create four channels in my mixer in S1. Gregor S1 software specialist created a video on this subject. But it is still strange there is a problem between Kontakt and S1 about Kontakt letting know to S1 how may outputs are selected within Kontakt.

Nothing strange about it really - Kontakt uses a ton of old outdated code and has done this oddball "non-communication" thing for years - and does it in most DAWS - not just Studio One.

Nothing can be done until Kontakt is modernized and starts behaving in a modern DAW.

I got tired of waiting so when I do need to use Kontakt - it's 4 instances of Komplete Kontrol in Studio One instead of trying to get 4 instruments in one instance of Kontakt to behave. Too annoying and time consuming to setup or use.

Great answer!! I was just thinking, I'm stupid? What I said, Running one instance, four AUX'es ( and if I need more, second instance, another four AUX'es, It's working for me. And Yes, I've enough power to create a lot of instances of K7, no problem at all. But a "Big" company like NI, should just solve a problem like this.

Thanks again for your explanation about how K7 or another version behaves within modern DAW's.
