If I have different time signatures in a song, it makes session percussionist trigger part-way through the pattern. Is there any way round this??

thanks,

steve.

You might have to have multiple instances of Session Percussionist, one for each time signature. You could then trigger one or the other depending on which part of the song you're in.

Hi, thanks for your answer. However I’ve since noticed that SP triggers at different points in the pattern depending on where you draw the midi note in relation to the bar numbers in your session. Eg if I place the midi note at bar 1, the pattern triggers correctly. If it is placed at bar 2 it will start half way through the pattern. Am I missing something here? How do I get SP to start playing the pattern from the start regardless of where I place the midi note in relation to the session bar numbers?

@coady What time signature do you want to have? What DAW are you using? Can you share a screenshot or short video explaining the issue? You can change time signature for every part in Session Percussionist and change the starting point:

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your reply. I’m using Pro Tools 12 and the problem I’m having is getting Session Percussionist to play at the start of the pattern every time it is triggered. If I start SP at bar 1 in pro tools, it’s fine, then if I skip a bar & want SP to start again, but it starts half way through the pattern. Then I’ve put in a bar of 5/4 & one of 4/4. When SP is triggered at the beginning of the next bar, it starts at 2.2 of the pattern. Am I missing a setting that tells SP to start at the beginning of the pattern every time it is triggered?
    Thanks,

    Steve.

@coady It's a little tricky to see the problem exactly, could you provide a video showing the issue and a small Pro Tools project wg-here you can reproduce the issue?

Hi Jeremy, yes, I was struggling to explain. I’ve tried to attach a video, but I get an error message

What video format can I attach?

    Thanks,

    Steve.

    Hi Steve,

Did you ever find an answer? I've got patterns starting in the middle of their sequence depending on where they land on the Pro Tools timeline. My time signature is 2/4, so nothing complicated.

This seems to be a serious limitation of this instrument. Might have to render the sequences, then align the audio manually.

    Hi Scott,

This does seem to be a significant issue with the program, and disappointingly, NI did not come back to me. However I think I found a work around. If the pattern is triggering in the middle of the sequence (or anywhere else) you can use the start/stop arrows at the top of the Session Percussionist grid to change the trigger point to suit.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve.
