Komplete Kontrol, Empire Breaks and Ableton 11
i am able to record individual instruments into tracks but when i try to record a pattern via that same instrument (like say "Kick and Snare" from Bank Kit in Empire Breaks i get nothing. is this something i can correct or just part of the deal ? using Keystation 88 as my controller.

@paul ray What is your operating system? I checked and I'm able to record both single sounds and patterns
If you choose Edit view, you can see where the single sounds are (multicolour) and the patterns (in purple). If you hit the notes on the screen, do they play?

hi jeremy and thanks for responding,
maybe the best way to approach this is from the start of what i am trying to accomplish. i have a sytem running Windows 11 with a 2 TB HD and a gig of RAM. i have ableton 11 and am running the NI suite with Izotope Suite of tools. i'm thinking the question may be what is the best order for me to operate ? as an example, should i...
1) i open Ableton
2) initiate a MIDI track
3) select an instrument
or in reverse order. or something altogether different. it's frustrating me .
i'm doing different things and getting various results. i'd like to know the BEST way to do it so i have a replicable best practice . further there no video i can find that tells you specifically how to integrate my Keystation 88 with Ableton 11 in a WINDOWS environment. for example i can't get the Play Record or Stop buttons to control the DAW as i should be able to. from my experience and based on what i hear from Mac users there IS a difference in the Windows version and the Mac that are not addressed for the Window user.
finally, just to provide background, i am a singer songwriter who is seeking to self produce and publish i have been back at working with DAWs since i started with NI about six months ago after a thirty year hiatus. long story short i believe there is a way that i can integrate what i have to create a reliable and productive workstation. hopefully you can provide the insights necessary to get me on the way.
thanks so much,
paul ray

oh and what i get with NI programs such as Empire Breaks or Rudiments that play patterns is they monitor and register but don't record but the instruments record when you press the notes, monitor, register and record.
thanks !

You just need to open a Komplete Kontrol or Kontakt instance in Ableton. You just have to double click Komplete Kontrol here:
You should be able to find plenty of tutorials on You Tube on how to use Ableton.

from your title it appears you are working for NI. if you're just another user trying to help, disregard the following and thanks for trying. if so, this is for you...
what i SHOULD be able to do and what IS happening are two different things. it's not going the way it's advertised and what i'm paying for. and if there are "plenty" of tutorials for Windows users that are SO readily available how about a LINK to ONE ? or SOMETHING from the "knowledge base" ? are these products sold with just Mac user suppoprt ? if so you should let people know BEFORE they get involved with them.

and my problem isn't with Ableton, it's with NI inside of Ableton. integration with Ableton is a selling feature for NI that is NOT being followed up on for Windows users !

@paul ray Forgive me if I read your posts wrong.
What happens when you try to open a Komplete Kontrol plug-in in Ableton? Does it load or not?
The host integration of Komplete Kontrol in Ableton is a feature of our own keyboards and will not be possible with a third party keyboard. In your post you mention a Keystation 88, AFAIK this is a M-Audio device, or did you mean a Komplete Kontrol S88?
If you did mean one of our keyboards, then what model exactly? Mk1, MK2, MK3?
If it's one of our keyboards then please check this article: How to Integrate Your Kontrol Keyboard with Your DAW
There's also a video on our Youtube channel for the MK2:
A specific video for MK2 and Ableton:
And if it's a MK3:
And you can find more on our Youtube channel.

thanks for the follow up,
1) i'm using the Komplete Kontrol 88 which is not listed in the preferences for Control Surface under "Preferences" in Ableton. which of the available options should i chose for integration ?
2) i'm very familiar with the videos you provided links to. again, these videos are for Mac not Windows users. there are enough significant differences between the two OSs and their relationship to Ableton and NI products that there needs to be SPECIFIC videos on this setup. not to be a nudge about it but if it's not set up for it it shouldn't be marketed that way because the ease of integration and being able to replicate was THE selling feature for me.
3) i'm not receiving a particular error message. my problem is nothing is CONSISTENT. if i follow the directions from the tutorials ( as best as can be done with the OS differences) it's a different result just about every time. i want to know "do A, do B and and get C" so i can have a predictable outcome and workflow.
i'm hoping you can help as i really believe this setup can accomplish what i seek. i just need to know to best to achieve the objective.

So, is it a S88 mk1, Mk2 or Mk3? It's an important information, as they have slightly different setup steps.
