Creating and using Presets in Komplete Kontrol for Pianoteq

I am an occasional player and own a S88 Mk2 keyboard and mainly use the virtual piano Pianoteq 8 which comes with nksf files. Pianoteq does not use the Kontrol player. I would like to create my own presets for Pianoteq pianos and then have them available in KK, to be selectable from the keyboard. However a preset created in the Pianoteq application does not appear in KK, as presumably this has to be an .nksf (or .nki?) file, which Pianoteq does not create for its own presets.

In addition, when having a Pianoteq factory default selected I cannot change any parameters, they are displayed above the knobs but are immutable. Not sure whether this is a general issue or whether just Pianoteq factory presets are immutable.

So my question is:

  • how can I create Pianoteq presets that appear in the S88 Mk2 browser
  • How can any presets be made editable so I can modify parameters adhoc after loading

    OK so when you save your own preset in Pianoteq it is just in Pianoteq's own format but not in Komplete Kontrol format (nksf). So you need to save your patches made in Pianoteq in NKSF format as well as Pianoteq. That's the first thing.

    Regarding the mapping - if you just load Pianoteq from the plugin loader the mapping is all over the place eg

    However if you load one of the factory NKS patches these are mapped to the NI Keyboard controller as below:

    So what you need to do is when you save your own patches as .nksf, first load one of the factory patches so the mappings are setup, then load your own patch and save at that as .nksf patch and it will have the proper mappings to the controller - eg here is one of mine saved as NKS

    Dear Kymeia,

    thanks for your quick reply. I think I could almost repeat what you are saying. Apologies, I am new to NI and actually want to play and not be stuck in the software details.

    Now, after saving my preset I can see and select it from the keyboard, but I still cannot change any mappings from the keyboard, this all looks inactive. With "The Gentleman" this works as expected. What am I doing wrong?

    Secondly, I relatively often get an error like this when changing presets, both from KK and from the keyboard. For example, I first load my own preset (as in the screenshot below) and then want to load a factory preset.

    When the error occurs, I need to completely stop and restart KK to be operational again.

    What does this error mean?

    I have a third question: With KK on Windows I do not manage to get the same layout as in your screenshots above. What do I need to get this type of display, with the libary left always visible?

    I think that is a bug - it looks like the VST3 is not communicating params properly with the host and keyboard, this worked fine in the VST2 so it is probably a migration issue. I would raise it as a bug with Modartt, their support is usually great

    I tried the first example and it worked as expected.

    I have also posted to the Modartt forum (I am not allowed to include the link here ...) Will you share your library fix directly with Modartt, so they can make it part of their next release?

    I am IT guy myself, so for curiosity: What program is used to create / change those files? Must be something special, as looking weird in e.g. Notepad++.
