I've got my new s88 mk3 but updater fails to update the firmware on the Kontroller. Updater thinks the Kontroller has failed to boot firmware update mode. The Kontroller display states it is updating.

  • using windows 11.
  • the hardware service is installed
  • the usb services are there.

Thanks in Advance.

Phil

First of all make sure that you have all the latest WIndows update available for your system. Then if it's still not working, please get in touch with our support here: https://bit.ly/NI_support_Kontrol

I had zero issues updating firmware on windows 11, however not all things are equal.

You need to ensure your USB-C connection from your computer is providing adequate power. Don't use a USB hub in-between the keyboard and the computer; direct connect if you can for the purposes of updating.

Or, use a second power supply to the power only USB-C port on the keyboard.

Thanks for your response. I glad that it worked for you.

I tried the connection things .

    • I have a usb c high power supply for the power
    • I have tried a usb c to usb A cable to connect to laptop
    • I have tried usb c to usb c to connect to the laptop
    • I have tried both with and without a hub.
    • I have updated windows.
    • the laptop is able to connect to the Push i have.
    • I've tried with nothing else running on the pc.
    • I've tried with and without Live running.
    • I've taken out the dongle for my extra keyboard and mouse.
    • I've re-installed the ni hardware server and other ni servers.

    I'm open to suggestions.

Ok, I follow the instructions after receiving an email, step by step

And now I have only one Device on my device manager, that's ok

And no problem with the update

My god, I loose 1 day and half for just a wrong driver

    Anyway, thanks NI and Niall

Could you post the steps here as well, for others to see? There are many situations - it would be good to hear what solved it for you.

The following is a copy-paste from the 13-page-PDF, which the NI support is sending out. The best way to spread this would be to attach this onto the troubleshooting page, since this was the only thing that worked, at least in my case.

    --------------------------------------------

"How to install the Kontrol S88 MK3 driver on Windows

Note: If you have Windows Bitlocker enabled, please have your Bitlocker recovery key ready. If

you want to find out if Bitlocker is activated on your system, click the Windows Start Button, type

"Bitlocker" and hit enter. This Microsoft page shows how to find your Bitlocker recovery key.

    Steps:

    1. Please switch off and disconnect the Kontrol S88 MK3.

    2. Create a new folder named “NIEditedDriver” at an easily accessible place on your hard

    drive (e.g. your Documents folder).

Important: do not delete this folder after following these steps!

    3. Extract the attached NIEditedDriver.zip file.

    4. Copy the 3 extracted files to the folder “NIEditedDriver” you created in step 2.

    5. Click the Windows Start Button.

    6. Click the “Power” icon to display the options.

    7. While holding down the SHIFT key, click “Restart”:

    8. Select “Troubleshoot” on the Choose an option screen:

    9. Select “Advanced options” on the Troubleshoot screen:

    10. Select “Startup Settings” on the Advanced options screen:

    11. Click the “Restart” button:

    12. Press “7” to “disable driver signature enforcement”:

    13. Wait for the system to restart.

    14. Click the Windows Start Button, type "Device Manager" and hit enter.

    15. In the Device Manager, select the name of your computer at the top of the list:

    16. Open the Action menu, select “Scan for hardware changes”:

    17. Open the View menu, select “Show hidden devices”:

    18. Expand the “Universal Serial Bus devices” entry.

    19. Double-click “KONTROL S88 MK3 DFU”.

(If you see multiple entries for ‘Kontrol S88 DFU MK3’ in the Device Manager, please

scroll down to the "important note" at the end of this document.)

    20. You can now see the KONTROL S88 DFU Properties:

    21. Open the Driver tab and click “Update Driver”:

    22. Select “Browse my computer for drivers”:

    23. Select “Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer”:

    24. Select "Universal Serial Bus devices" and click “Next”.

    25. Click the “Have Disk…” button:

    26. Click the “Browse” button:

    27. Select the extracted “nikksm3dfu.inf” file and click the “Open” button.

    28. Click the “OK” button on the “Install From Disk Menu”:

    29. When a warning appears that the "driver is not digitally signed", click the "Next" button.

    30. When a security warning appears, click “Install this driver software anyway”:

    31. Wait for the installation to finish.

    32. Select Close on the screen that says “Windows has successfully updated your drivers”.

    33. Connect the Kontrol S88 MK3 keyboard, turn it on and wait for it to boot.

    34. Run the KSMK3 Updater. You can download it here.

    35. When finished, please restart your computer to re-enable Windows driver signature

    enforcement.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you see multiple entries for ‘Kontrol S88 DFU MK3’ in the Device

Manager (step 19), please follow these steps:

    1. Disconnect the Kontrol S88 MK3 from your system.

    2. Restart Windows.

    3. Click the Windows Start Button, type "Device Manager" and hit enter.

    4. In the Device Manager, select the name of your computer at the top of the list.

    5. Open the Action menu, select “Scan for hardware changes”.

    6. Open the View menu, select “Show hidden devices”.

    7. Expand the entries for:

    - Universal Serial Bus devices

    - Human Interface Devices

    - Sound, video and game controllers

    8. Remove all instances of the Kontrol S88 MK3. Right-click the entry and select “Uninstall

    device”.

    9. Restart Windows.

    10. Follow the steps above again from step 1."

"3. Extract the attached NIEditedDriver.zip file."

Does anyone have an idea where to find this zip file?
