Maschine Plus Hardware Upgrade

That sort of stuff usually is picked with quite a bit of overhead, no? Especially if NI planned for future upgrades. It also needs to be able to supply power to external devices too, at least 5 watts for the 2 USBs. I wonder if that sort of power/upgrade info is available somewhere in the congatec documentation.
Still so risky... Don't go touching capacitors! 💥

I need to find my Kill-a-Watt and see how much power the M+ uses on average. That will be a starting point to determine how much extra power if any is available.
One would assume that the main power rail of the carrier board would have to at least support 40 watts, which is what's listed by the DC jack (DC 15V @ 2.66A). And you'd also assume that there is some margin built-in for power spikes, surges etc...
With that said, I'm not an electrical engineer so I have no idea what the typical margin would be, 5%? 10%? There's a cost factor in there too because it's a consumer device, so the more money that is spent to over-engineer something the less money they make off each unit.

@reffahcs I remember having observed current readouts on the display of my Omni+ power bank. Something around 0.7A to 1.1A during startup and 0.9A during playback of projects with CPU load of about 60%. With 15V that means it will consume around 12W sustained and probably 18W peak. The power supply also needs to power the USB ports, but that’s just another 5W (2,5W per port). There should be plenty of headroom.
I don’t think the power supply dimension was chosen explicitly for the M+ but is the same as the universal power supply for all other NI products.
Looking forward to your measurements.

what happened with this thread? Did you come up with a viable solution or not? I’m on the edge of my frickin seat readin this thread, just to find out if you didn’t get it to work? What? Why? It’s been almost a year, nothing? No progress at all?

I guess there's no further comment coz everyone crashed his/her Maschine plus in the meanwhile…
I was reading that thread for quite some time but came to the conclusion, that everything in that gear seems to be perfectly matched in size, specifications and qualitiy to keep the price low.
Anyways i still love my Maschine plus and for work which is too complex i just use it as a controller for my PC is much more upgradable and capable for Plug-in instruments and so on…
I think we have to wait for Maschine plus mk2 which will propably never be developed after joining with AKAI.
Though please keep on jamming on Maschine plus. Its capability and workflow is still unbelievable!

Maschine mk3 + macbook air Mwhatever and you got more for less (almost at releasing price…)
Even the M4 mac mini and headless setup will be cheaper and thousands powerful vs hypotetical M+mk2…

Good to see this still active. It would be good if native instruments can actually offer us a new motherboard, processor and ram upgrade to fit in the old shell. NA are crazy if they think I'm paying another £1500 on the new controller, nah they can scrap that idea. NA are starting to be on the bottom end of my production list now, stopped putting money in their pocket with plugins and upgrades because they still can't do a simple thing of letting us have access to running maschine on linux. Maschine itself runs on Linux so I STILL till this day don't understand WHY LINUX IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE TO LINK DIRECTLY TO MY MASCHINE PLUS. Akai is easy to connect to Linux and that's the system of choice this is why I'm on Akai using linux.
NA seem to have their own vision of LONGING EVERYTHING OUT! Want to upgrade your maschine to 3.0? "Well you'll have to wait sunshine, we are to busy trying to sell plugins"
Dont nobody in their right mind wants to use an operating system that not so long crashed the world that relys on it. To me windows is Done, none of my computers runs windows no more, strictly Linux so if it's always going to be crapple and windows then they have lost a very loyle customer who use to spend hundreds at a time on plugins with them.
If anyone has any idea how I can run native access and maschine on Linux then I'll start using it again, if not just gonna stay with a company who understands that the world has moved on since 2000, it's now 2025, the paying customer should have options to be able to use an os that they seem fit.
Native instruments could be a good company if they used a cotton bud, clear their ears out and understand there PAYING CUSTOMERS. There is no point bringing out 3.0 on so called standalone, the machine hardly handles 2.0 but now you want to add stem separation and other things to this processor and ram 😄 I don't know what your planning on doing but currently I have a standalone maschine that don't run standalone, just about to be updated to 3.0 but the internals are ******, Can't even run on Linux, Can't install my own vst in my "standalone machine" you can now see nothing really adds up with the description they are giving out.
HOPEFULLY NA FINALLY DO THE RIGHT THING AND LET ME USE THE MASCHINE PLUS WITH LINUX OS, now with pipewire Linux have stepped there game right up. MY AKAI I HAVE NO ISSUES DOING THIS AND ITS ACTUALLY STANDALONE.
