How does one backup the user library database (tags etc?)

I recently got maschine and have a habit of reinstalling windows frequently. I've been able to move my library over to an external drive but I fear the next time I reinstall, all the content will be available, just without tags. How can I save the tag database too in my backups?

This article is about reinitializing the Maschine and KK DB, but steps 7 and 8 (under the windows section) gives you the location of the Favorites.db. Back that up and restore it after fresh install!

The Tags are saved inside the wav files as metadata, you can't lose them.

thanks for the response! i have looked into this and im fearful this would only backup things ive marked as favorites and not the entire db. can you confirm?

I'm sure the the developers aren't looking for any new feature requests at the moment but that would be a nice one for them to just automatically backup that favorites.db file.

do you know how tags are applied (or where they are stored) for NON wavfiles? Like tags for instrument presets, or snapshot, etc.

They are always stored in whatever file type it uses, for instruments/plugins it's on the NKS patch (.nksf). Not sure what you mean by snapshot.

What are you trying to do exactly?

Snapshot as in when you click from KK file -) save as - it creates a snapshot (nksn)

I want to start fresh building my library mostly using premade sounds/instrument (kontakt library : noire,rickenbass,massive,absynth, etc), tweaking the sounds to my liking and then saving my preset (using snapshot or saving the instrument as a user preset). Then use tags to navigate easily within the KK browser.

I was wondering if each snapshots or userpreset retain the tags in their file or if the tags were saved elsewhere!

OHH, of course, sorry... Kontakt is not my specialty. Try it, save it somewhere else, and add the folder as a user lib to confirm.
