Long loading times for new presets? (Teletone Audio Specifically)

Hey ya'll,

I just grabbed a couple of the Teletone audio synths (vepertone and Ondine) and the load times between presets is obscene on my 2019 32gb Mac using a 2tb ssd sandisk. Load times were comparably long when I tried using Hybrid Keys, Drum Lab, Retro Machines Mk2 and others... Am I doing something wrong? I looked up and one YouTube vid said try batch reload but I can't seem to find that function on this version of Kontakt or kk. When I use other sampler library plugins like Spitfire Audio they take a matter of seconds. Is Kontakt just super slow or am I doing this incorrectly?

Another thing, what is your workflow when using a KK keyboard? Do I first browse presets/plugins with KK then load that preset/instr in my DAW using an instance of Kontakt player? I read that using KK for each new instance takes up extra RAM, and I'm already dealing with the slow load times. I'm kinda confused as to how I should be efficiently doing this, because right now it is hair-pulling out level of slow (1-2 minute load times just to change the preset, not even the instrument?!).

The 3 main reasons I bought the m32 were to 1) use Logic integration (this is going pretty well), 2) use the encoders for extra emotive playing (having trouble just loading plugins so I haven't got to do much of this, but it was fun for Hybrid Keys and works well with the SFA plugins), 3) upgrade to Kontakt so I can utilize the free libraries and use some of the older SFA orchestral plugins that aren't KPlayer friendly. So I'm hoping for a good NI sale this holiday season...

How long is long?

When describing when something takes a "long" time to happen it is useful to post a time reference because if it is taking 6 hours to load between presets, yeah that is long. If it takes 15-30 seconds, that is not as long in the scheme of time and likely normal, depending, but may feel long to you in this day of instant gratification.

Time it takes can depend on the speed of your machine to load things into RAM and that of course depends on everything from the SSD and interface through to CPU through to RAM. Next is the size of hte actual library data that needs to be loaded. Loading something like a preset for Massive would be fast because Massive is a synth and does not need to load 50GB of multi-sampled content, but loading something like Alecia Keys (or most Kontakt libraries) can sometimes take a while because of the need to load so much data into RAM, it was never designed for preset flipping.

how long is "a while" for Alecia's Keys?

I'm sorry it was a long comment, but in my second paragraph I mentioned that it takes "1-2 minutes" to change presets on the Teletone synths. Like Alicia's Keys, they are sample based I believe utilizing between 2-10gb of storage on my external ssd. If the plugin has already loaded, why does it take another 1-3 minutes to change it's own presets? My external 2TB sandisk ssd is rated for 1050 mbps.

I would understand loading not being immediate, except that the Spitfire Audio plugins, which are also sample based and have comparable library sizes, always take a few seconds max.

Sounds a bit long, tho also depends on the interface to your SSD including the interface in the SSD housing. Will always take longer on ext drive than internal drive.

If you load the same instruments in Kontakt without KK in the mix, is the issue the same or improved? If the same, issue is in how your data is stored or the formatting of your ext disk. If it is much faster, issue is in KK, file a bug report.

The load times have improved significantly the more times I've instantiated. Down to 3-10 seconds the last few times. However, now the problem is logic crashing with the Teletone plugins open. It's crashed at least once per instance of Teletone plugin open in my current session. I'm thinking it might be more a Teletone thing than KK or Kontakt Player, but what do I know? I'm getting a T7 tomorrow with larger file storage, tho the size isn't the issue I think it's the throttle like you suggest. Maybe I should have gone for the thunderbolt 3 cable instead of USB C 3.2?

No idea, I use a PC with enough room in it to install actual SSD drives direct to a SATA/PCI ports so as to avoid slow loading issues.

Usually what I do if suspecting the drive or ram or something to be an issue is watch the task manager when loading things to see what is doing what. There is also a known requirement for external drives to be formatted to the same format as your internal drive, depending on the OS version, for modern systems that would be APFS

You make a great point about the formatting. One of the reasons I just ordered the T7 4tb ext ssd is bc Spitfire libraries won't let me move off to ext SSD unless they are formatted the newer apple APFS. So my plan was to get the new SSD and then use the old as a Time Machine backup. The ports I'm using on my Mac are thunderbolt 3, but the connection to my externals are all usb C I believe, so my max is going to be 1050mpbs if I'm lucky. So it's likely the format and port throttling since my current ssd is formatted the older way.

Is your workflow with the apps as I described in my initial post? You browse w/KK and then instantiate Kontakt within your DAW? Or do you usually use KK for each plugin within the DAW since you get to utilize the NKS integration?
