Komplete Kontrol plugins no longer show on screen, only in standalone Komplete Kontrol?

Hi,

Just went through the process of purchasing a new PC and reinstalling Komplete Kontrol. Everything kind of works, but the plugins work differently to before.

When I select one of the plugins from the Komplete Kontrol keyboard, it loads up in the standalone Komplete Kontrol manager, whereas before, if i loaded say 'Hybrid keys' , I would get the hybrid keys plugin with all the settings up on the screen which I much prefer.

Hoping this is just a setting that i have missed, but i cant work it out.

Can anyone help with this please?

After a clean install of KK and the "re-introduction"/install of all your required NI products - you need to first open KK in standalone mode and let it build its initial database.

You cannot use KK correctly in a DAW as a plugin without doing this step.

While this "database build" is going on (you will see a spinning loop in the upper left of the UI) - you need to just let it do its thing for 5 minutes or whatever - do not interact with it - and once complete - close KK and reopen it.

You should then be able to add KK as a plugin and navigate your instruments per normal.

Hi. Thanks for the response. i have tried that, i just did it again, by quitting Ableton, letting it KK run in standalone for a while and ensuring the database has been built.

After firing up ableton, I have KK listed in my plugins. Everything work, but the individual plugins, ('Hybrid keys', 'ethereal earth') only load up within the standalone KK mode. See below.

Previously, when I loaded up one of these plugins, it would show up on the screen, separate to the standalone KK system (in fact the kk standalone system didn't even load up). This was far easier as I could see the setting on the screen.

    Hope that makes sense.

You mean you want to see the full instrument window like this?

    "Hope that makes sense"

Kymeia has the correct action for you.

But I see you have decided to install Komplete Kontrol v3 - which is decidedly lacking in a number of key areas as of right now.

I have a s61MKII keyboard so I am staying firm on KK 2.96 as of this writing. I have not installed KKv3 and will not until such time that it catches up with the fit and function of the KK v2 plugin.

YES! thank you Kymeia. That just shows that I am not used to using the KK standalone system. Was so much better when the plugins would just load up separately on the screen.

Agree Vocalpoint. Presume the reason the plugins don't load on the screen separately is due to it being a later version. I just did a fresh install, so didn't know I could have stuck with an earlier version. Would it be too much of a pain in the ass to go back to an earlier version now?

Thanks Kymeia, that's done it. I think that emphasises how little I use the standalone KK app.

Vocalpoint - You are 100% bang on with this. Much prefer the KKv2 plugin. I just did a fresh install so presumed it would be the same. Is there an easy way to go back to an earlier version?

    See here for v2.9.4:

Komplete Kontrol S series MK1 keyboards End Of Life — Community (native-instruments.com)

    About halfway down Post 1

But also know that NI released a new KK2 update (2.96) just today - that also will not appear in Native Access.

    See here for v2.9.6:

    Komplete Kontrol 2.9.6 - Last VST2 supported version — Community (native-instruments.com)

    Cheers

Thank you Vocalpoint, really appreciate you posting this.

This will help with the next major issue I have in that all the tunes I made on PC, before moving over to Mac were made using the VST2 plugin. The mac version/latest version doesnt have a VST2 plugin, so I cant actually load up large parts of any of my music :-(

Presume I have to uninstall everything and reinstall with the 2.96 download? Or will the older download link superseed the latest version I have installed?

Will be a nightmare, but if that's what it takes. Sorry for all the questions.

"Presume I have to uninstall everything and reinstall with the 2.96 download? Or will the older download link superseed the latest version I have installed?"

Correct. But you do not need to uninstall ALL your NI stuff - just KK.

If you have KKv3 on there - I would ensure all traces of that are gone.

Then install 2.96, do the "standalone" database build sequence and you should get back to normal fairly quickly.

And then - do your best to ignore KK3 until mid 2024 when it might just be usable for the general public.

    Ahh, I see. OK, thanks.

So keep the Native Access and plugins I have downloaded apart from the KK plugin?

Do I go through the process of installing the midi scripts again?

Yes - just swap out KK3 and swap in KK2.96.

Not familiar with the "MIDI script process" that you are describing.

A lot of my plugins wont display in Komplete Kontrol either after updating to 3.0. Rolled back to the previous version until NI sort their s**t out. Seems to be a worrying trend of them releasing updates/software before its been fully tested or fully functional.

Hi. Thanks for your help so far.

I've rolled back to 2.9.6 and the plugin is working much better, however, I'm still not seeing the KK plugin listed in my VST (VST2 folder) in Ableton. (See below)

    abletonvst.png

This leaves me with the same issue in that when I load an old track that used the vst2 KK plugin, I get the error message 'The vst2 plug-in could not be found'.

When I check the install path on my Mac, it looks as though it is in there. Please see below.

    Any ideas?

Here are my plugin preferences if this helps? As you can see, I have followed the path from my Mac and specified that as my custom VST2 plugin folder.

    Thanks

    Nick
