How I make default Controller in Komplete Kontrol ?

I use 2 Komplete midi: A61 and S88 mk2, when I open Vst Komplete Kontrol in Cubase, it defaults to A61, in fact I need it to default to S88, because I only use A61 as a key, not needing functions to control Komplete, but I really need to use S88 to use S88's functions. Every time I have to change it back to S88, when I change another Track, it returns to A61. Please help me ! Is there a way to default to opening Komplete to S88?

Thanks !

    Hi Nguyen,

    Here are some instructions I learned from a Native Instruments video on YouTube titled "Using KOMPLETE KONTROL with Cubase | Native Instruments" that could be of assistance to your query.

    • Open an empty session and click on the Studio tab at the top and select "Studio Setup."
    • Click the "+" sign and click Komplete Kontrol S-Series.
    • For Midi Input, make sure the selection is Komplete Kontrol DAW-1 and Midi Output should have the same selected, Komplete Kontrol DAW-1.
    • Now, click on the Midi Port to Setup the midi ports for the S-Series.
    • Make sure the boxes below "Visible" are checked for the S-Series Port 1, Port 2, and also Komplete Kontrol DAW-1. Also, check the boxed for "In All MIDI" for the same three.

    Please let me know if this helps you get the results you are trying to achieve. Any feedback is greatly appreciated as well.

    @jciliommusic Thank you ! i did that, but komplete kontrol still connect to A61 ! Haiz! is there any other way?

    You can’t. If you have NI keyboards connected the A series will always be selected as the smart keyboard and no way to select which one is the main one. This is an oversight from NI as they must have assumed no one would use multiple keyboards.

    I don't get why it would be the A series that gets selected though as the 88 is a Mark II and the better keyboard so surely that takes precedence?

    Then again I also don't get why 2 keyboards are needed in this setup? The 88 series II should be able to function as controller and keyboard, and is far superior to the A in both areas, so what is the point of having the A as well?

    Yeah, you are thinking logically but applying that thought to the world of NI...

    That is what you would think but in my own tests using live for instance, having 2 keyboards connected and having bot scripts available no matter if you manually set things or not, the A series is always selected over the S series and the only theory I have for that is it is simply selecting the first keyboard in the list with A being before S.

    Numerous reasons for having multiple keyboards. You may be tracking ideas and playing 2 different instruments or moving between different parts and it's nice to have a keyboard set to each instrument so you can play and switch on the fly. For live performance it would be as simple as needing to play 2 parts at the same time or just more convenience when switching key switches or articulations, tho an S88 should be fine for that.

    I think it "can" be possible if you uninstall the A series script completely making it just a dumb basic keyboard but honestly, if you need a second MIDI keyboard just for extra functionality almost any other keyboard would be better than a second NI keyboard.

    @Kymeia

    i need the s88 to play the piano with heavy keys, and i need the a61 to play other instruments with easier keys to make it more comfortable, for example synths, or drums, you can't play these instruments with a heavy keyboard! Maybe I have to make the decision to sell the A61 and buy a 61-key Midi controller from another manufacturer

    @JesterMgee

    How do I remove the A61 to make it a basic keyboard? because in fact, I just need it as a basic keyboard! I already have an S88 to use the Cubase control functions!

    Not sure you can - it doesn't even seem to have a midi out

    @Kymeia ! Yes ! i am looking for a way to make komplete kontrol be able to take both , and work the same ! but also seems impossible

    Yeah sorry, you can’t. What I was referring to was the control script for the daw integration, the “smart integration” is automatic and KK detects the keyboard which is always the A series so now as I recall, you just can’t have both connected.
