Kontakt 7 does not start on WIN11

Hi all,

after installing Kontakt 7 the program (Stand alone) does not start, no settings window for Audio and Midi appears. Looking in the Task Manager the program appears as background process. I tried :

  • reinstall / reboot
  • following the NI manual to delete registry entries and AppData folders --> after restarting Kontakt 7 the registry entries as well as the AppData folders are restored
  • OpenGL / DirectX are up-2-date
  • Asio driver latest version installed
  • AMD RX 5600XT graphic card driver latest version installed
  • 16GB of RAM available
  • Kontakt Player 6 was installed previously and worked fine, has been uninstalled via Native Access. After reinstalling the player it shows the same effect as Kontakt itself --> no start window to set peripherals.

Using a Behringer U-Phoria UMG404HD external sound interface.

Anyone an idea why the program won't start? I tried it on my old laptop and there it worked fine, no issues.

    SOLVED:

    I removed the Microsoft C++ Redistributable packages (x86 and x64) from 2005, 2008 and 2012 which had been installed by various programs over the time. The remaining packages are 2013 and the combined 2015 to 2022 packages (x86 and x64).

    After this cleanup the Kontakt 7 Standalone program finally starts with the Audio setup window and the main window.

    KONTAKT 7 Opens with a Black Window

    Symptom

    When you start KONTAKT 7 on a Windows computer, the graphical user interface remains black.


    Cause

    KONTAKT 7 requires graphics hardware support for Direct 3D 11.1 (Feature Level 11_0) or higher.

    If your graphic adapter does not support this requirement, KONTAKT will open with a black window and will not function.


    How can I find out if my graphics can run KONTAKT 7?

    The Microsoft tool DxDiag shows all the specifications of your graphics drivers. Here's how to use it:

    Click the Windows Start button, type dxdiag and hit enter.

    Thanks for the comment but as I already described:

    • DirectX and OpenGL are meeting the requirements
    • Kontakt and the Player Version 6 does not start with any windows (also not a black one) but appears only in the task manager as background process

    I assume that this is no graphics issue since the Kontakt Player 6 worked until Kontakt 7 had been installed. After the installation both programs has now issues.

    Also try the following:

    Run the System File Integrity Checker

    The steps provided on this page from Microsoft explain how to use this tool.

    Run DISM

    If Windows updates are failing to install correctly, this can affect the installation of other programs. This tool from Microsoft will fix Windows updates errors.

    Install the latest Microsoft Visual C++

    Ensure you have the latest supported Visual C++ redistributable packages for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019 installed. Install both the x86:vc_redist.x86.exe and x64:vc_redist.x64.exe available from the Microsoft support site.

    Windows Updates

    Make sure you have the latest Windows Updates installed. This article from Microsoft explains how to do this.

    Hi Jeremy,

    thank you for the suggestions.

    I performed the DISM tool as well as the SFC command, found some issues but still Kontakt 7 not starting

    I updated the C++ distributables with the required 2015, 2017, 2022 package, both x86 and x64 installations --> no effect.

    My windows is up2date, no outstanding updates.

    I ran the support tool again and attached the result here. I cannot understand that the Kontakt program itself does not throw an error message with an error code or hint for the reason.

    I'm really running out of ideas....a hundred bucks for a software which is not running on my system.....

    @JackHylton thanks for posting this update to your problem (which seems to mirror my own). I'll try it myself and see if it works.

    Note, however, that this solution could be problematic as users may have other (non-NI) programs that depend on those earlier versions of the Microsoft VCPP runtime packages.

    FWIW, this solution (removing older versions of Microsoft VCPP redistributables) did not work for me.

    Yes, I have. That's the first thing I tried, and I used dxdiag to confirm that my GPU supports DirectX Features up to level 11_1.

    I've also contacted NI Support, run the tool, sent them the output files, and tried all of their followup suggestions, with no effect (much of this is detailed here).

    Quote : "I have the same issue" is not very informative , but I have seen from your profile that you have Windows 10 and Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk1 and Komplete 11 .

    First of all be warned that N.I. have declared the MK1 EOL , long negative discussion here ! Which suggests that you ought to stay on the Komplete Kontrol 2.9.4 (Windows) to get the most out of your keyboard. If you already upgraded then you might consider downgrading again though people have had problems both upgrading and downgrading again. (check all the forum discussion if need be).

    As for your apparent Kontakt 7 (?) problems then , please , you are supposed to go through the trouble-shooters , so if you have not then please do so prior to stating that you have a similar problem and if you have done the trouble shooters already then please state so ! :
