How do I set up my Mikro 3 with Ableton

I have plugged it in.

I open up my Vst and drop Maschine onto the midi track.

I select a drum kit.

I go to input and put it into manual. I put the Mikro into MIDI mode.

I press a pad and it doesn’t it make a sound.

How do I record the midi notes into Ableton?

This is more a matter of routing the midi out of the Maschine software than using the HW as a controller for Ableton. At least this is imo the best implementation of the 2 working together.

You could leave the Maschine HW into controller mode taking advantage of all its functionalities and make the VST software send the midi to Ableton (and what you recorded in Live back to Maschine of course), having like this the best of both worlds.

You can find some tutorials on how to set this up on YouTube, but I admit many of them are quite convoluted. The best one I found is one in French: not too long, very clear and straight to the point. If you understand French I can try to find it back for you and post a link

Edit: this is the tutorial. If you don’t understand French, you can always put the automatic translated subtitles (even if they are FULL of errors, you will probably be able to understand the procedure)

I suggest you to follow the steps one by one pausing the video every time, because a single error would mean the things not working.

As I said, you can find also others in English, but I assure you this is the clearest and fastest (all the procedure is explained between 0:30 - 4:50, therefore in a little more than 4 min. Many others takes 25+ minutes to explain the same).

And using this method instead of using your Mikro MK3 in midi mode is waaaaaaay superior: full access to Maschine and not wasting your MK3 as it was any other general midi controller
