Kontakt 7 editing samples not possible?
Been playing with Kontakt 7 and wanted to know if they (N.I.) have locked us out of editing samples and other parameters via the tool (wrench) button, or am I just missing something.

You're not missing anything, KFL2 is locked for editing (main reason here being because Native UI toolkit that is used for the HiDPI user interface is not yet public to use for everyone).

Dumbing down Kontakt has gone way too far. The Edit Mode is locked out in the new Factory Library 2 and all Play Series instruments. One of the most valuable features of Kontakt's full version is gone.
Those script-based instrument GUIs are too restricted. The Kontakt scripting language does not provide enough features to create proper user-friendly GUIs. The native GUI elements in Edit Mode are much better. Like showing modulation indicators on knobs in real-time, showing filter frequency response curves, allow typing exact parameter values, graphical display of LFO shape, zoomable waveform view with editable volume envelope overlay in convolution rever, built-in FX preset management, etc. Recreating dumbed down versions of instrument controls in a script-based GUI is a big waste of development resources, and the result will always be mediocre at best.
The script-based GUIs used in various Kontakt instruments are not consistent. Like in Komplete 14 Ultimate, just count how many different ways there is to adjust amp envelope, filter cutoff, or reverb amount? Users have to learn each interface separately. And NI does not have the time and resources to properly support, improve and test all those different GUIs, resulting in poor overall quality.
I think NI should have focused much more on improving the Edit Mode GUI, like changing the layout to require less scrolling/jumping, and allow resizing the GUI. The main features of Play Series instruments are the macro assignment and easy sound source selection. Those features should have been implemented in Edit Mode. And then there wouldn't have been any reason to develop the Play Series at all. The Play Series would be just a normal preset/sound bank for Kontakt; no need to develop a new GUI for that. And the same thing for the Factory Library.
Users of Kontakt Player version should also have access to Edit Mode. Just lock the Mapping Editor, Wave Editor and script editing in Kontakt Player version.

Agree strongly with all that (though I wouldn't push the last paragraph)

Not going to upgrade until this would change.

This is unfortunately diminishing the value of these instruments and Kontakt as sound design and a teaching tool. I've been creating curricula and teaching Kontakt at several schools in the US now for 15 years and extracting groups and recombining them in new instruments was one of the primary ways to get started while explaining how sound was organized UNDER THE HOOD and going beyond just playing with Performance views. We used to be able to browse groups as well for that purpose..and that's obviously also gone. Furthermore, looking at the deep end was always an important teaching tool to learn how to make your own instruments. Unfortunately I will have to use the previous Kontakt Library now until this is resolved. Any idea when this is going to happen?

I've used NI products since 1996 and Kontakt since the first version.

@EvilDragon does that mean that the ability to edit will return and that it is just missing because of it only being a beta?
I mean it's ok for now as I can still use K6, but it's worrying if that's the direction and we will be to locked out of editing, I use it on prebuilt libs to make customisation for better dynamic control with a Roli Seaboard Rise, so I hope it doesn't get permanently removed.

@cc0 Whether or not the deeper instrument editing (Edit Mode) is available depends on the library itself. Some libraries (like Spotlight Collection: East Asia or Playbox) can be edited, while others (like Analog Dreams or Ignition Keys) can't. It's not bound to Kontakt.

I would hope so, but it is not my decision ultimately.

Bonjour

I would really like to be able to loop guitar samples to create a guitar instrument that has infinite sustain. I was hoping that something like Electric mint would allow this kind of looping via the waveform editor, but I am guessing this kind of editing is locked out
