how to not destroy all of my previous work on K6 and KK2 with my new Mac

I am transitioning to new Mac and I need to preserve the backwards-compatibility of my previous projects in Ableton using KK2 and Kontakt 6 with Una Corda and Noire, Geosonics I and II, Scarbee Mark I and A200 and Classic EP-88’s, and a few others (like Bioscape, Lunaris 1 and 2, Novachord, Piano Colors, AliciasKeys, The Gentlemen and the Giant). Also Guitar Rig 6. My old system was Intel with Monterey and my new is Sonoma Mac Studio M2. I have installed K6 and K7 on my new Mac, and I have the KK 2.9.6 DL. Unfortunately I have installed the latest downloads of all the other instruments listed above. I see most of the above instruments missing from the link below to Previous Versions. ALL IN ALL THIS SEEMS REALLY COMPLICATED. I would deeply appreciate any simplifications of this dilemma or easy solutions.

Is it as simple as deleting every file associated with each of those instruments and finding and installing older versions compatible with K6? Curious why the list posted above is not more comprehensive with all of NI's downloads.

You'll find more downloads for older versions of a lot of the NI libraries in your account here - https://www.native-instruments.com/en/account/downloads/

Deleting the newer libraries and installing the older ones should make them work again with older software versions.

The only solution - if you are intent on staying on K6 - and ensuring ALL your K6 libraries work - is to uninstall every effected library, replace each with the K6 versions and then basically stay away from Native Access - until such time that you move off K6 and can continue with the latest releases

Any use of NA - once your K6 libraries are back in place - will put you right back into this mess.

For the Kontakt libraries, you should simply locate them on the new computer, without the need to update them (and potentially breaking compatibility with Kontakt 6). This is fairly simple to do. Move the libraries or connect the external hard drive where your libraries are and use the Add Product content feature:

Not sure why you stick to 2.9.6, mk2 keyboards are 100% compatible with the latest versions of Komplete Kontrol.

Thank you! I see they do not provide any information other than release date. I see Kontakt 7 was released in December 2022, so that should be fairly straightforward.

Can you explain this a little more because I am not understanding your point here.

No one has mentioned the idea of saving off the Kontakt preset inside my old setup and importing that into my new. Is that an easy and straightforward solution? FWIW my edits to a factory preset tend to be fairly simple, nothing under the hood or multi-ouputs.

That will not work between versions.

Even if you could somehow load a preset created in K6 (for example) into say K8 - almost a guaranteed it will have load issues.

If this was a thing and it worked - we would all be doing it.

Instrument (.nki) and multi (.nkm) files will always load into any version of Kontakt equal to or later than the version where they were saved. (I know nothing about "presets".)

Save as .nki will save the instrument with all its MIDI connections; .nkm will save all the instruments in that instance of Kontakt with their MIDI connections, and all the master and output channel settings.

Host automation settings might be visible depending on your DAW.

Neither of these will save the MIDI cc values, so you'll have to initialise these e.g. in your sequencer.

If you save an edited commercial instrument, give it a different name (e.g. add x at the end). Don't overwrite the original.

I just meant that if you had moved the Kontakt libraries and relocated them, you would have copied the older versions of the libraries, when installing from scratch with Native Access it will always download and install the latest version available.

The idea around the Monterey applications was a way to check the compatibility with some libraries on your new system as well. Might be not so relevant, when I read it again, so sorry for bringing an extra level of confusion.

Unfortunately at the moment there is no other solution than uninstalling the now incompatible libraries and install the previous versions HERE
