I think it’s a big thing and every other software has it , Serato , djay pro , virtual dj , all of them has it

First I am just a user. Therefore I don‘t know if or if not. But most likely I don‘t expect live stems in Traktor anytime soon. Stem separation just came with Traktor Pro 4 less than a year ago. There must be some obstacles in Traktor otherwise NI would have brought live stems from the start.

While Live Stem separation is not available in Traktor Pro 4, it is included in Maschine 3. The new interface features stem separation, enabling users to isolate vocals, instrumentals, drums, basslines, and more before re-sampling and chopping them up, without requiring access to the multi-track studio stems. Maschine 3’s stem separation is powered by iZotope’s RX algorithms, and the new update also includes iZotope’s Ozone 11 Elements. Thus, given this information, the capability lies within NI's/iZotope's parameters; they just need to upgrade it in the next iteration of Traktor Pro and stop teasing us with "Generating Stems," which is slow, limits you to one song at a time, and results in large file sizes. While this is something, it is definitely not the answer!

No, the Maschine 3 stem separation is not live.

I am not for live stems.
It means you rely on something "live", not predictable.
What happend if live stems cannot be generated, in live ?
With offline stems generation you know how are your stems and it is not really a problem generating them (for me it is a part of collection preparation).
I think live stems is confortable but will tend to make traktor more unstable.

At first, I was anything but enthusiastic, more like embarrassed. But since then, I've gotten used to it. If I'm not satisfied with the results in Traktor itself, I have Nuo Stems, for example, to achieve better results. As @Spekulos said, preparation is definitely a viable option, with some compromises. The way we have it now, is acceptable, and I can generate stems and play e.g. with a 2012 MacBook Pro. Try that with djay Pro or Serato; it doesn't work. The path we've taken, admittedly, probably somewhat out of necessity from the developers' perspective, is resource-efficient and meanwhile I'm fine with it.

@Owner Is Nuo stems really better than Traktor stems generator ?

That's a matter of personal preference, but for my taste, it's definitely better. I have more options for the processes in Nuo Stems, can benefit from various settings and can even do batch processing. Depending on the template, the results are much better than with Traktor. When I use the mel-band reformer with Nuo Stems, the vocals are audibly clearer. I also notice on fat sound systems that Traktor's stems lack a bit of punch, which I haven't noticed with Nuo Stems so far. If you'd like, I can send you a few examples so you can listen to them.

Live stems is a badly chosen word, but what they mean is "gpu accelerated stem separation"

It just means the stems will be created on load within seconds, like other DJ software. It's not live.

It also does not mean you can't prep them before. It just means they are done within seconds.

@Owner "I also notice on fat sound systems that Traktor's stems lack a bit of punch…" I noticed that too (only with stems) and that is related to keylock, if you disable it the dynamics will be far better. This is not the subject but if think the keylock sound very strange on Traktor, after a lot of tests it seems it severly alter normal tracks and kill the dynamic of stems tracks. As for nuo stems, thanks for your proposal @Owner but i just see the comparative youtube video.

Tried Nuo Stems, amazing quality but extrememly slow in the processing even with gpu acceleration.

So, maybe the good approach for NI devs would be to propose a choice between two modes:

Live mode : Low quality stems (like over dj softwares) generated in "live" (or gpu accelerated as @lord-carlos say)

Quality mode : Highest quality stems but offline and longer processing

It should satisfy those who wants quick stems and those who wants high quality stems.

Probably NI will improve stems with izotope tools help but it will take some time.

As for Nuo-stems “time” processing… how many times you will process your library? Once did, only new songs will require the process…

It’s an investment but totally worth if you are into the Traktor workflow.

An alternative could be Vdj which works properly on old macs but since new m1 are cheaper (in comparision) maybe considering a new machine will improve the whole process.
