Questions regarding Komplete Audio 6 MK2

Hi,

I am a Komplete Audio 6 MK1 user here. While there are no major problems with it as such and I still love it, I am planning to upgrade my audio interface and I had MK2 in consideration. Could anyone please help to answer the questions below?

  1. Is Komplete Audio 6 MK2 discontinued and will no longer be stocked/available?
  2. Is MK3 planned and coming soon/this year?
  3. Irrespective of questions 1 and 2, how does headphone output(s) of MK2 compare to MK1? MK1 drives my DT 880 Pro 250 ohm without any issues (headphone volume knob around just 10 o'clock gives sufficient level). Do the two MK2 headphone outputs drive 250 ohm headphones comfortably? I would appreciate it if someone who owns and uses both can comment to be fully sure.
  4. Is MK2 fully supported on macOS Sequoia (and Logic Pro)? I think yes, but more of a formality to ask in case I do buy it if it is still available.

Thank you.

@LoveEnigma There is no plan in the near future for a MK3 version. As @mykejb suggested, the impedance is different on the MK2 and I can confirm that it's not ideal for that specific set of headphones. MK2 is officially supported on Sequoia.

I don't own the KA6 but the headphone output specs are much lower on the MK2.

    MK1 - 100mw @ 100ohms

    MK2 - 25mw @ 33ohms

The manual/spec for the Mk1 is here if you want to compare it with the MK2 - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/374206.pdf

Thank you, I appreciate your comment.

I did go through the specifications and comparison with MK1 user manual, and while it seemed to me that MK2 has lower headphone output (and I know for sure that MK1 has an excellent headphone output for 250 ohms and probably higher as well), I asked for actual experience rather than relying on specifications, which can sometimes be difficult to go with.

Also, I read the following on the MK2 webpage (screenshot below). So, I thought it would be great to know from someone who uses a 250-ohm headphone with MK2 interface, so that I can make a more practical comparison (like, by knowing how much do we need to push the volume knob).

No worries :). Not sure how the output power is doubled going by the spec unless the first is a misprint and it's 10mw to 100ohms 🤔

Indeed. :) Also, sometimes the specifications are written differently in different places. So, I am trying to go by what we actually hear to be fully sure.

By the way, do you know if KA6 MK2 is discontinued? It looks so to me.

I will say that KA6 MK1 is one of the best audio interfaces ever made. I was/am interested in MK2 because of my experience with MK1 and especially because it has two headphone outputs.

I wonder if MK3 is around the corner since it's exactly 6 years MK2 was released, but for some reasons it seems that NI may not be interested in audio interfaces now. If MK2 is discontinued and MK3 is not released in the next month or so, I will go with a MOTU/SSL/UA/Audient interface.

I've not seen any announcements about the interfaces being discontinued, although NI don't generally advertise new products until they're pretty much ready for sale. A MK3 would be nice, especially if it had independent headphone outputs rather than just being a copy of the main line outs.

Yes, that's true. If MK3 is in works, I am getting an impression that it is imminent. Other side of me says there won't be a MK3.

The Komplete Audio 6 MK2 has been out of stock a number of times (as it is now) in the past year which could indeed support what you think. But we have zero information.

Okay, I understand. Thank you, Jeremy. Not sure if I would still be interested, but will KA6 MK2 be back in stock anytime soon?

@LoveEnigma Checking on that, will get back with more info when I get it.

Sort of on the same topic - I'm searching for a manual for my Komplete Audio 6 Mark 2 interface. The support pages seem to point to one but it opens pages for KA 1 and 2 instead. I'm trying to troubleshoot an annoying issue involving my system occasionally losing its connection to the KA6 (even though it's plugged in). The result is an ear-shattering screech. I usually have to bail from my DAW and/or reboot.

    Thanks!

I don't think there's a complete manual for the KA6, just the Quickstart guide which you can find here - https://www.native-instruments.com/en/komplete-audio-6-quickstart/ . Have you tried the usual solutions like swapping the USB port you're using and using a different cable?

Sad to know that, but I am grateful that you confirmed this. I can now (a bit unfortunately) remove KA6 MK2 from my audio interface upgrade consideration.

I will once again complement NI for KA6 MK1 though. One of the best audio interfaces, ever!
