Different volume output db level when using KK keyboard (MK1) vs. other keyboard - WHY ???

Hi everyone,

I have 2 Midi keyboards connected to my PC which I use when I record Midi in Cubase 14 Pro, one Komplete Kontrol (MK1) and one Alesis Q25

Rounting inside Cubase for all tracks is set to “All Midi Inputs”, so I can play on either of these keyboards when recording MIDI into Cubase.

My question: when I play MIDI notes into Cubase using the KK keyboard the output volume level is considerably lower than when I play them in using the Q25 (around 6 db), despite the velocity levels being identical.

This annoys the hell out of me. Why is this and how can I change it? I cannot find any setting that would explain this. (I am still using the 2.9 KK software version)

Would be great if you guys could offer some advice.

Thx in advance for any reply

The velocity curve might be different.

    Thx for the feed back.

It's not. I checked it before I initiated this threat.

neither is volume CC or CC modulation

I suspect it could be simply because KK S series have better dynamics (to allow more expressiveness when playing) and you don’t like it. KK S series have semi-weighted keybeds (even weighted in the case of S88), which makes the response of the keys different.

Yes, both keyboards are advertised being “velocity sensitive”, but different keybeds give different reactions to how you play.

The question is: what happens if you bang quite hard on your KK? Can you achieve the same volume?

In that case, it’s just a matter of personal preferences.

You could set up the velocity curve to be “less responsive”. Probably the Alesis will remain the same, but the way you have to play the KK will get closer to the Alesis, which you seem to prefer.

(All the dynamics that is so valued when playing e.g. a piano is not always desired when playing e.g. a synth)

Hi and thx for your feedback.

Also checked this before posting. Banged both keyboards as hard as I could. Cannot achieve same volume with the KK
