Can I control the playback tempo of Maschine + with a trigger?
I'm interested in purchasing Maschine + for live performance. I want to kick loops off the click, being able to sneak them in to a live band situation. The idea being to tap in the tempo the band is already at with a foot switch, then trigger the loop. Or even to modulate tempo and have the loops modulate with me. I know Ableton Push has this capability but I'm wondering if Maschine does as well. Thanks!

If I understand correctly… you can tap tempo or change it with a knob on the M+ itself.
If you use the Audio module, the audio can be time stretched

Thank you! So next question… Is it possible to map a pedal to the tap tempo function? That way I could use my left foot to set or adjust playback tempo while playing drum kit in a live situation.

That is not possible in Maschine standalone, as far as I know.
One way to do it could be to load Maschine as a plugin inside a DAW with more midi map capability and map the pedal to the DAW tap tempo

How do they work? As external midi clock that will be followed by Maschine?
Btw: quite expensive devices…

I agree they're not cheap but they fill a very specific need, and there doesn't seem to be a budget solution.

Just run your set w/ Ableton & run a mic to the drummer's bass/kick drum, then mute that channel & make ableton follow that channel for tempo information.

I think the easiest way to avoid laptops is to use any phone app that has LINK, then the phone is there just to send the BPM to the M+ via WiFi or Ethernet cable.
Some apps can even detect tempo like this:
(BTW, I never tried it to give an opinion on how well that particular one works)1 -
Although I love to use Link (specially with iPad apps) I cannot say that it is 100% working for 100% of the time (I would really like it to be: easy to set up, immediate, it has some features that with other methods are not so easy to accomplish).
Same is valid for many features that use “detection”: they work “sometimes”, unluckily.
Those are all methods I constantly use… but on my own, when not being in a live situation allows for a “Oh…why didn’t it work? Well…no problem, let’s make it restart” moment.
That said… they have a very good point: very cheap (or even free) to try out and discover/decide if they are what we need and we can use
