Komplete KONTROL not working in ProTools

    Do you have any tips for connecting the Kontrol S49 MK3 to ProTools via PC? This was all Mac specific advice.

    I'm using a ProTools Artist subscription via Avid (Link), PC running Windows 11. Kontrol is set to MIDI 1. All drivers are installed and updated as necessary.

    I've followed every instruction given on the NI sites

    My new Kontrol S49 MK3 is not talking to ProTools, at all. It will not trigger any of my existing ProTools instrument plugins (like Air Mini Grand), nor any of the NI Kontakt sound libraries inside of ProTools on any stereo instrument track armed and ready to record. This is after I was finally able to configure Komplete Control (which was nightmare #1) because Komplete Kontrol was not allowing me to select (under edit, preferences, midi) the Kontrol S49 MK3. The checkbox was not already checked and it was not allowing me to select it either. I did uninstall and re-install the software, powered down/powered on my computer and the Kontrol, and then it allowed me to select the box BUT only to separately use Kontrol as stand alone instrumet which is one step closer (YAY! Finally made a keyboard sound after 3 days!).

    Also after I shut down my computer last night and came back to it this morning to try again inside of ProTools Komlete Kontrol did not save ANY of my preferences and once again this morning, I cannot select the appropriate boxes.

    Hi Jeremy,

    I've had a similar experience with my s88 Mk 3 using Ventura and latest ProTools Studio on my Mac.

    I have been to my supplier and they had an identical outcome when they tried to set up the store keyboard. They say the Australian NI representative is on it, but I raised a support ticket with NI around January 18 and it remains unresolved. So far I've had about 10 emails suggesting I try various things that I'd already discovered on this forum and done before asking for help.

    I did make it a little bit further than you with PT acknowledging S88 MIDI in, but it certainly is not functioning as advertised. I have faith it will eventually be resolved, but when? AVID were no help.

    Meanwhile, I'm starting to learn Logic. It works on that platform, but that's sad because I am very familiar with PT.

    Are you running ProTools and Komplete Kontrol as admin? How to Run a Program as an Administrator

    If you open Komplete Kontrol in standalone, is everything functional? Can you take a screenshot of your MIDI input preferences there?

    Please try resetting ProTools to default:

    1. Press Windows () to open the start menu,

    2. Type %appdata% and press OK,

    3.  Open the Avid folder, and delete the Pro Tools Prefs file

    Yes, if I open Komplete Kontrol by itself, and play the keys on the Kontrol, I can hear the sounds through my monitors. The problem is when I open ProTools, it seems like it's not getting a signal from my keyboard at all. Screen shots included as requested (and more you didn't ask for but just in case here they are anyway!).

    Then I select Hybrid Keys… and a basic piano sound… I arm my stereo instrument track (well, input monitoring), hit play, play the keys and no sound. Also, I can not control play / stop / record etc from the Kontrol. It's not talking to ProTools - at all.

    Not sure what I'm doing wrong? Opened software to run in Administrator mode, it did not appear to make any impact.

    Karl, I hope you get your S88 MK3 working soon.

    So very frustrating when you buy a technology / tool to make and record music, only to NOT actually be able to make or record music with it because of the technology hiccups.

    I just noticed something on the Pro Tools site today for MY issue and regarding software compatibility as there seems to be issues with Windows 11 (particularly the 24H2 version which is not listed as a supported version like 22H2 and 23H2) so I think for me, this is likely a software thing, not a Kontrol thing. I'll reach out to Avid and hope that they respond. Not going to hold my breath.

    I wish you luck with Logic till your Pro Tools issue is resolved. Hope the learning curve is not too steep!

    There is a bit of chatter about Windows 11 version 24H2 but the short of the long is that ProTools does not yet support that version/build , I think that I also spotted some mention of a computer using AMD CPU needing BIOS update to get ProTools to behave after Windows update

    Also quote bottom of page at : "ERROR" Pro Tools Shutting down in Splash Screen

    I don't need to know what I should have done tho, I think the only way is to revert back to Windows 23H2. If you know a possibility that would be helpful.
