Tracktion Waveform Free vs Native Kontrol with Kontrol MK3

Hi everyone,

Since its release, I’ve been longing for a Kontrol S88 MK3. However, as I’ve been using Reaper for roughly 17 years, it’s important for me that it works well with it.

I’ve read in several places, including here on the forum, that Komplete Kontrol often freezes or crashes when used with Reaper. Because of this, I started looking into other DAWs. However, since the DAWs officially supported by NI are significantly more expensive than Reaper, they’re not an option for me. On the other hand, Tracktion Waveform Free seems like a good alternative. It’s a completely free DAW.

If I knew that Komplete Kontrol works flawlessly in the free Waveform DAW, I’d feel more confident about purchasing the S88 MK3, knowing that there’s at least one accessible DAW where it works well for me. At the same time, I could continue experimenting with Reaper to find out whether the issue reported on the forum is caused by a Windows or Reaper setting.

My question is: is there anyone here who uses their Kontrol MK3 with Tracktion Waveform Free?
Or would someone be willing to test this free DAW to see if Komplete Kontrol works properly with it?

I use it with Waveform pro, works great, although the combo with Bitwig is the best

    Thank you for your response.
What do you mean by saying that the Bitwig combo is the best?
Does the Kontrol MK3 work better or have more features under Bitwig compared to Waveform?

Could I kindly ask you for a favor to test the steps mentioned in the (LINK) comment to confirm whether the issue only affects Reaper and works flawlessly under Waveform?

    Looking forward to your reply!

I followed those steps but no freeze

Bitwig has the best support overall because the Moss extension enables more functions than the standard NI integration including visualisation and control of any device params in DAW mode using the main keyboard window and knobs - combined with the very useful Bitwig device panels you get great control over the DAW and any devices whether native or plugins - and NKS on top

Waveform is nice too though, I prefer it if I just want results quickly
