direct connect

With regards to Massive X - I'm not sure what purpose a direct connection would serve, considering it's already directly connected via Komplete Kontrol. That would seem like the wrong investment, if I'm being honest. Just my view.
Direct connection with Cubase might be a whole other ball game, though, so I would not be surprised to see conversations happening with DAW developers.0 -
"With regards to Massive X - I'm not sure what purpose a direct connection would serve, considering it's already directly connected via Komplete Kontrol."
The specific "Direct Connect" the OP is talking is referencing here is like with Kontakt 8 and a MKIII keyboard - you do not need Komplete Kontrol at all.
He is wondering about the same for other NI instruments - like Massive X AND some really old ones which I believe is unrealistic.

Oh I understand what they're asking, but why would NI invest in direct connection whent they effectively already have it with KK/Massive X?
Unless they were working on an update for Massive X (I don't know, but I have a feeling). Still, this wouldn't make sense from a development perspective for me. Free software that aids workflow already available, versus developing direct connection to a specific VST.
I'm just saying commerically, investing in KK and Kontakt (and now some support in maschine) makes sense, given the uses cases of that software. I would assume direct connection for Massive X would only cater to a small number of users. MK3 owners (tens of thousands assumed), Massive X owners (10x the number of MK3 owners) - you'd end up with this benefitting a few thousand users, most of whom already use the direct connection of KK with Massive X.
If it were me in charge of product development, I'd spend that time and cost on new features for a wider audience. But again, that's just my opinion.0 -

Agreed 100%. Anything that already is fully supported by Komplete Kontrol does not need to be mentioned or worried about.

So WAIT, this was the news for direct connect ? ;(
I was hoping we'd get some new real updates to NKS2 this doesn't achieve anything for those of us who already invested in NKS 2. Tell me there's more to the story here, this isn't an update for NKS2 at all.

This is what Loopop was asking for as well, this is what Dom Siglas was requesting as well. So it's not just the OP, there's many of us who want a direct connect, and could careless about Komplete Kontrol anymore. I think with Midi 2.0 from a smart company we will in one shape or form get these features, it's just unfortunate NI doesn't see the writing on the wall.

NKS is about to become significantly more widely adopted.
I'd wager that is generally a good thing for more content to become NKS compatible, or indeed, for what Direct Connection could mean down the line.
This week is Step 1, really.

Right you are referring to NKS 1 right ? NKS 1 is going to become more adopted in these basic midi controllers from your new partners,novation,m-audio,akai etc..
I don’t think the OP, nor Loopop nor Dom nor myself or others are concerned with NKS 1 at all. Yet what changes/updates NKS 2 and direct connect are going to bring to the table. I personally don't see any benefit for the Komplete Kontrol MK3 customers here, maybe I'm missing something. What updates are NI actually making for the users/customers who invested in the newer MK3 hardware ?
What updates to NKS 2 are being made ? There's a laundry list of features that users/customers have been requesting here for what 10 years now, where are these ?

You are not missing anything. This new Partner Program has nothing to do at all with Direct Connect (as it applies to Kontakt 8 and a MKIII keyboard) and this thread.
Nothing has changed with respect to "not needing Komplete Kontrol" as it relates to this announcement.

Ok, so basically there's no new updates for our MK3 hardware. This is just an update for a new partnership for midi controllers. The announcement earlier this week, " We'll have some announcements about Direct Connection at NAMM " kinda led us to think we would benefit from this, but yeah this doesn't show NI making any progress for the newer hardware. So more of the same…thnx

exactly this. i really dont like komplete kontrol software anymore, v3 is terrible and is a lot slower than v2. i want to avoid komplete kontrol at all costs. direct connect to other ni products could solve this.

This is why I continue to use KK v2. And remember v3 is not a requirement unless you own a S-Series MKIII. There is no justification to use V3 if you do not own this specific "newer" board.
But I would not hold my breath for any more "direct connect" instruments in the near term that work like Kontakt 8. (without KK). That was their first crack at this - and it will need to be bulletproof before that tech makes it into any other product - like say - a Massive X for example.
That said - this tech certainly will never make it into the old guard like Battery or Reaktor. Those are essentially on early retirement (only getting OS specific operating fixes as needed). And third party - doubtful if ever as that would require third parties to recode their apps - which makes little sense if you do not own a MKIII.

I think that S-Series MK3 owners are going to see benefits through more apps than Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 7/8 to include the Direct Connection, I already tried prodding Matthew_NI a little here but so far he is doing his job very well and not letting us know further about the specific details about the impact on that aspect of software.

got to be honest, am very disappointed at your comment
" We'll have some announcements about Direct Connection at NAMM "
i am heavily invested in the ni system, i own kontrol 61 mk3, kontrol 49 mk2, maschine+, traktor, komplete ultimate collectors and about £15k worth of third party libraries.
lately, its seems like everything is going backwards, for example…
- massive x never really hit like the legacy massive, this seems like a step backwards instead of an improvement.
2. komplete kontrol v3 was dislike by most that use v2 and for me is now redundant.
3. the new default view in kontakt means you have to make extra steps to create your own (non leap) instrument. becomes tedious, was fine how it was. the new features in v8 are for beginers and not experienced users.
4. maschine 3 never finished scanning plugins and had glitches so i reverted back to v2. this 'major' update was very lacking and disappointing.
i really am starting to doubt my investment into ni. direct connect to ni products & more komplete compatibility on maschine+ would make me a happy customer.

I sure hope so! I'm hopeful
