macOS Sequoia (15.1) and Kontrol S61 MK3

Since Logic Pro 11.1 came out, I decided to upgrade to macOS 15.1. I know that NI products are not officially compatible, but I took the chance.

Looks like plugins are working fine. Even Kontrol 61 MK3 seems to be working fine with Komplete Kontrol 3 software.

However, the keyboard and DAW (Logic Pro) integration is broken. The screen doesn't show Mixer and transport and other controls don't work.

By when can I expect DAW compatibility to be fixed for macOS Sequoia (15.1)?

Any suggestion is appreciated.

EDIT: See my post below for an update. I will observe how things work for a few days, after which we can mark it as resolved. Thanks!

Looks like the problem fixed itself.

After posting here, I thought let me try checking in Logic Pro 11.0.1, and surprisingly, it worked.

Then, I opened Logic Pro 11.1 again, and it worked!

So, looks like a glitch, but since I upgraded macOS and Logic Pro today and NI products are not officially supported, I almost certainly thought it to be a compatibility problem. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

EDIT: Alternatively, just delete Kontrol S61 MK3 from the Control Surfaces setup. Quit Logic Pro. Turn off the keyboard. Open Logic Pro. Turn on the keyboard. Kontrol S61 MK3 will be reinitialized in the Control Surfaces and it will then work as expected.

It seems Kontrol 61 MK3 is working fine on macOS Sequoia 15.1 and Logic Pro 11.1.

If I observe any weird behavior, I will post here.

That's more up to Apple than anyone else. You need to be asking them as it's their responsibility to make sure their releases don't break things in their user base.

I'm running Logic 11.1 & Sequoia 15.1 on a Mac Studio without any problems if that helps anyone.

Just for info, I’m running Cubase 14 pro on Sequoia 15.1 with S88 mk3, so far I’ve had zero problems

Updated last night to 15.1. Left it on overnight and when I came back I had to check it had actually updated as everything looked exactly the same.

So far everything works - Logic integration, Komplete Kontrol and Maschine (tested KK 2.9.6 as well), Massive gave me an error the first time I loaded a preset from KK but since then works fine (I think it just needed a rescan first).

Maschine 3 has added features - you can now use the new screen modes in Sequoia by click holding on the maximise button or drag to the top of the screen to maximise it (same with Maschine 2)

Tested host integration for Logic, Traction, Studio One (6), Bitwig, Reaper 7 and Live - all working. However there is some additional advice users will need for NI apps and some others. I had to enable local network Access for several items

This seems to be a new Sequoia security feature but if users don't enable this for things like NI Host Integration agent that might cause them problems as it is needed for Device integration (Live in particular did not work until I enabled this and restarted it)

I have a couple of questions regarding Kontrol S61 MK3 and Logic Pro integration:

    1. Is AUTO button on S61 also supposed to open "Automation" view in Logic Pro or just change the automation mode from "Read" to "Touch"?
    2. Rotating the 4D encoder doesn't control the play head in Logic Pro, instead it controls the volume fader of the Mixer for the track selected. As per user manual it should control play head. What could be wrong for me?

I tried removing Kontrol S61 MK3 from Control Surface setup and initialized it again, but nothing changed. I tried deleting Logic Pro preferences/plist files, but it did not help either (glad I had backed it up!).

That's odd it changes the playhead position for me but when I'm in plugin mode, in DAW mode it does change the volume (not sure if that is normal as I don't usually use this feature)

Yes auto switches between read and touch (although I prefer latch personally)

According this this that is correct

Thanks for confirming. I checked again and it's the same for me.

I think play head control should work in DAW mode too. Don't think why we need 4D encoder to control volume of Mixer track, which the 8 encoders also do. Wonder if it is a bug?

Regarding AUTO, it would have been if it also opened "Automation" view, but guess it would not be possible.

Yeah, but I wonder what does the following mean under "Transport" then. I think Shift + 4D encoder rotation should work, which I tried before as well, but it doesn't, and rather still controls Mixer volume fader of the selected track.

    Is it a bug?

Yeah not sure how you're supposed to scrub in an audio track (but as I said I never use this - I prefer the mouse)

It's not intuitive to switch to Plugin mode, which you can't when you don't have Komplete Kontrol or Kontakt loaded, to control a DAW control (play head).
